Now that I'm a full member I should introduce myself (better late than never) I'm John and I have lived in Ulster since 1985. Prior College Station, Tx, Cobleskill, NY, Potsdam, NY.  My wife and I have 2 kids that are in college.  I like to hunt, fish, trap, and farm.  I make my living as a CCA (certified crop advisor) on farms in the lower hudson valley and we also have a fruit farm here in Cherrytown.  Like it or not I call it like I see it and will let you know where I stand with being PC low on my list.  Life member NRA, RVR&G 27 yrs.

Welcome aboard!!!

*aside-  Do you think NY deer hunting is much worse than Texas???
I was stationed at Fort Sam Houston for almost 2 years, and I say: 'NO'.... New York deer hunting is pretty dang good... Good habitat, good numbers, and plenty of decent bucks.... (antler restrictions ARE helping)
-And from my LIMITED experience, the deer hunting around San Antonio was pretty lame... (tiny deer) ;)

Thanks in advance (:

In answer to your ? Bob--deer hunting in Tx is a rich mans game and unless you can afford a lease or a canned hunt or are in the service(hunts on base) access to land is almost impossible.  Knocking on doors--fat chance.  Small amounts of access on state and federal  vs. lots of state land here in NY.  I was lucky that one of my housemates at Texas A&M had 1000's of acres of family land in the Brazos bottoms.  My major may have been horticulture, but my minors were hunting and fishing with weekends spent chasing after waterfowl, deer, catfish and whatever else a bunch of poor students could eat.  N of San A.is the hill country-- I would hunt that for deer any chance I could.  As far as walkabouts post--this is the 1st site that I've ever been a member of and it's not only entertaining but useful.  What I would call 'good bull!' to the sportsman helping sportsman here in the area and yes it's about time.

Hi Guys, another Hudson Valley Sportsman here :-) Just saying hello, friend of mine told me about this site so I came to check it out. I'm in Wingdale/Dover area hunting for the last 5-6 years, looking for buddies with the same interest and of course more hunting spots :-) Been doing deer, Turkey and some small game in all seasons (bow, xbow, gun, MZ), basically trying to get out there as much as I can can and as much as work and wife allows :-)
Bad day of hunting beats a good day at the office

Hi all, my name is Jeremy. I have lived in Stone Ridge up in the Vly all my life. I have hunted and fished for as long as I can remember. My grandfather (which many of you local guys may know/remember) and my dad got me introduced to the outdoors. I have been bow hunting since I was of legal age and finally connected this year with a buck.  I have just got into trapping and duck hunting and am looking for tips/advice in both.
