Tracks in the new snow

Has anyone else noticed how few deer tracks are out there with the fresh snow on the ground I’ve been looking in some of the areas I hunt and have none and have been checking road crossings that I’ve learned through out the years fields where you normally see them digging to get to some grass etc I wonder if DEC has someone monitoring this as well it’s not looking to good from what I’ve been seeing

I noticed the same thing... Most years the deer are herded up near my parents' house by now. There would be 30+ deer at a time moving through their backyard almost every day in the mid to late afternoon. The most they've seen together this year is 5... up from 3 a week ago. By the way the grasses, seedlings and yews grew last year it is clear the herd is much smaller.

I'm in northern Schoharie county, and my observations are almost exactly opposite.  On Tuesday morning, after that night with the big bright full moon, my lawn and fields are covered with tracks, and have big areas where the deer were digging through the snow.  I remote started my truck that morning, and when it started, and the headlights came on, shining across the front lawn area, I couldn't believe how ripped up the snow was out there.  I have a group of about 8 that meander through frequently, so I'm guessing it is from them.

Tons of tracks here in Westchester. Its all about what areas you hunt. Spots dont stay productive forever. Deer move on to different more safe habitat

In some areas it is not just about a food source change.  EHD hit hard......

As I stated in a previous post, I have only seen 2 deer in my backyard in Port Ewen in MONTHS . . . . when normally I would have seen several per day  . . . EVERY DAY!!! . . . hope it's just a natural culling goin' on . . .but kinda scary!

My area was hit pretty good and Iam starting to see some deer around.  On the driveway as well as my CELLULAR cameras lol. The other day I saw 5 does together. It was nice to see

Definitely easy to see the lack of sign with decimated deer herd. Hopefully winter kill will not be a factor this year on top of it.

I do have deer on camera but it's easily 60% less than normal,  other areas down the hill from me I'd say 75-80% decline and virtually no deer sign at all.

I have areas like that also… EHD hit some areas really hard. Right now the deer are herded up, so even when I see 6-9 together, it’s still not the 15-20 we used to see. Nature’s way unfortunately, hopefully they rebound quickly 🤞🙏🤞🙏
