very sorry to see that also ...... last year when id walk in the woods I would find blood trails from the deer hemorrhaging......  last year after finding 5 dead deer in a 50 x 50 yard section I stopped looking ..... it was overwhelming for me last year to say the least

unless I'm reading the proposal wrong .... @ least the DEC didn't put any management units in your area (from what i can see) on the early doe season like they did for 3m this year ......... that's all the mitigation they have done for 3m following EHD ..... increase the harvest ......

Terrible. What part of ulster muskrat? I pretty much gave up on the DEC.. they estimated 1500 mortalities last year from EHD, which is a complete joke. They honestly have no idea what Is happening in the deer herd and the outdoorsmen have to rely on each other for honest information.

ALL the DEC does is quote the same news release and talk about the little effect on the deer herd which shows their ignorance .... going thru it last year on a small piece of property I can tell you the effect is not little if you see it happening all around ...... like any epidemic high population areas spread it pretty quick ......

Grazan,
Thanks for your concerns ,if this continues there will be no sustainable
deer numbers to hunt this fall , in my area ...!!

We just started to see really nice bucks here too ,  do to the antler restriction policy ..

It will be years for this local herd to come back , in my opinion..
Also the DEC should not let out doe permits in these hard hit areas ..

i feel your guys pain .... i don't want to sound like a broken record but from 2015 i spent my time passing up young bucks on a small piece of property in 3m and every year the bucks were getting bigger .. last August the number of mature 8 point or better was near a dozen or so ... then Sept 2020 EHD hit and camera pictures went from 300 in a 2 or 3 week period to barely 20 pictures  ... never saw a decent mature buck and maybe had 1 or 2 on camera ..... I also get it that no one can really do anything about EHD but I don't think the DEC increasing the number of DOE permits for 3m (which they did from 36K to 40K) and throwing in another 9 day hunt in September  is exercising good judgement especially with another round of EHD nearby ..... if it shifts south into my part of 3m there wont be any deer left ..... so i hope that's not the case ..... I really don't even have anything on camera to really hunt on this one piece of property and probably wont even go there except to post NO HUNTING signs for the landowner ......
