This is my first buck with a compound and one I will not soon forget! I wasn't planning on hunting and my wife wanted to hike so I said let's scout/still hunt and I'll bring the bow. We ran into tons of fresh sign and were headed toward doe bedding to see if any lurking bucks. Had a deer blow at us so we stopped, scanned for a while and did a few grunts to try and trick the deer. He got our wind though.

While we were sitting and scanning the direction he went we heard rustling behind us. It was a rather big bear on the bench just below us eating beech nuts.  I almost had a 25yd shot but too thick. Then out of nowhere runs in this buck to 25 yds above us (where we did 2 grunts 15 mins prior). Hit back lung/liver (slightly quartering away it turns out) and bumped him last night by mistake so left him til this morning.  Can't believe this went down with my wife there! Thankfully she's a lot better at spotting blood than I am.

This is the 2nd time still hunting with a grunt worked for me since I started a few years back. First time was with the crossbow 11/4/17. We made sure the wind was in our face and got up hill due to rising thermals mid-afternoon

Wound up not needing deer search but I did speak to a nice guy from United blood trackers who gave me some tips and said he would come out if I couldn't locate this morning. I wound up hitting back lung/liver with slight quarter away shot. Buck went 950yd from where I arrowed him. We bumped him last night and that's when we backed out but we must have bumped him on the way back to the road because found a 2nd bed this morning and after that he ran across the road to private.  Got the property owner info using OnX actually and the owner happened to live down the road. Buck was laying 100yds from the road on the other side. Easy drag compared to what it could have been. Luckily he ran to swampy area because we lost blood for the last 50yds and were able to follow his tracks in the mud
