Dick, i resized Deanhuntsny pictures for you so you can look at them better. and give him a age on his deer.. Ron

Deanhuntsny's deer shows very little wear on the lower tooth row. It appears to be  a 2 and a half year old.

Good Orbit......your deer shows no wear on the last molar.  It appears to be a 2 1/2 year old.

Hard to tell by looking at the pics with my cell phone,  but it looks like NY bowhunter is 2.5 and Taylors is 4.5. Hopefully Dock chimes in.

My buddy took this buck in Ct. he was at least 6.5 years old. How accurate is tooth aging past that age?

Yote Hunter;

I would concur that your deer is  a six and a half year old.   The lower jaw line is pretty well worn down, with considerable wear.  At 7 and 1/half  it would show even more wear on the jaw line.

Accuracy will decline as they get older.    Congratulations on a nice buck !

Dick

Thank you my Henry.  While you’re at it, another friend of mine took an old buck during the bow season. We’d be interested in getting an age. Thanks for your time. It is Much appreciated!

MPALA22080;

Pardon my delay, I have had a chance to look at deer jaw that you sent to me.

It appears to be a 3 1/2  year old deer. At 3 1/2 it still shows wear on the first molar.  If it were a 4/1/2 it would show more flattened wear.

Call me if you have any questions (687-7434).

Green Sider,

Sorry for the delay regarding your the age of your deer.

Your deer appears to be a solid 2 1/2.

The lower jaw bone shows very little wear, and that is common for 2 1/2 year olds.

Congratulations on your deer.

FWI - I plan on doing some deer aging classes after the season.  Save your lower deer jaw's and bring them in.   The class runs about 2 hours, and you will get to keep the handouts that I provide.

Dick Henry.
