whether u agree or disagree u can send comments to their email until August sometime ...... below is what i sent them on why I think 3m should not be included:

"Sent: Thursday, July 8, 2021 1:04 PM
To: wildliferegs@dec.ny.gov
Subject: Deer and Bear Hunting Regulations

This comment is for 6 NYCRR 1.11(a)(2) and 1.11(b) concerning the PROPOSED EARLY SEPTEMBER DOE SEASON, specifically concerning the inclusion of 3m.

I find it somewhat irresponsible of the DEC to open 3m  to yet another expanded hunting season after the outbreak of EHD which decimated the deer herd. Feel free to use my BOW LOG  numbers to prove to you how one part of 3m was negatively impacted …….

2020 (EHD)
130 hours in the stand (at one point I was out 14 days in a row)
13 bucks seen
18 doe seen
Nothing harvested

Compared to 2019
77 hours in stand
54 bucks seen
42 does seen
8 point harvested and many other bucks passed up ….

As YOU can see the deer population has all ready been reduced …

RECOMMENDATION: DO NOT INCLUDE 3M in any new expanded hunting season"

Very true of alot of hunters i've talked to in 3M. Hopefully comments don't fall on deaf ears.

not surprising ... the DECs answer to EHD to 3m is to raise the number of Doe permits this year....... actually i think its the highest i ever have seen it .. 40,000

DEC seems not to care of the EHD loss from last year but is anyone seeing any signs of it this year yet I know it’s a little early in the season and a much different weather pattern this year and it’s pretty unusual to hit the same areas in back to back years just a ?

Haven’t seen any sign of it. Don’t think (hope) it will come back. Honestly, I think the dec wants the herd decimated in heavily populated areas. Hunters are just a tool to manage herd (aka) reduce car collisions. Hunter input means next to nothing.

I do not think many people will take part in this extra season. If my local area was in trouble I would not take out a doe. But to be honest, you can still find fields full of deer in parts of 3m at sunset and if I had access I'd take out a nice doe for the freezer. In general I'm out there to fill the freezer along with trying to get a nice buck. I do not need to see 40 deer a sit to feel like I am hunting.  Seems like a good time to take a doe and the herd will have weeks to forget you were there.  But I gun hunt 3k mainly and will be focused on bear.

They didn’t care about my comments …… and their answer shows me their ignorance on the negative affects of EHD and how they marginalize it buy calling it "localized" ... i hope others experiencing EHD this year doesn't get the same "helping hand" from the NY DEC ......

https://dos.ny.gov/system/files/documents/2021/09/090121.pdf

“. A few writers objected to inclusion of WMU 3M due to deer mortality from Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD) in that unit in 2020.”

“WMU 3M did experience some localized deer mortality from EHD in 2020, but subsequent deer harvest patterns suggest the disease did not ap[1]pear to substantially affect the unit’s overall deer population. The manage[1]ment objective for 3M is to reduce the population. For that to occur, ad[1]ditional antlerless harvest is necessary.”
