Im glad your on here D Henry i would be just guessing the age of the deer. I thought he was older. The hoofs curled up like a  an elfs boots any idea what would cause  this?  Thank you for aging him,

There are a couple of things that can cause "elf hooves" or "sounders" as they are often called. In some cases it is the result of an extremely rich diet from crops; others think that selenium rich soil can play a role in this.  It's something they can pick up from their environment.

Save your jawbones guys;  We can do a couple of deer aging classes after the season if you'd like to.

I can handle up to 16 people at one time. I have a large jaw collection from local deer. I pair folks up and  we start out with fawns and go all the way up to 10 1/2 year olds.

You'll probably won't remember it all, but with the handouts I provide you'll be able to figure it out. Total time is about 3 hours and there is a self-graded test at the end.

I only ask that you cover my printing costs  and expenses and that runs about 8 bucks a head. You keep all the handouts.

I have not, I was honestly just guessing by the size of the deer and their weight. It was a good guess! I would love to take one of the classes and really learn how to age them though.

Thanks again!

8 pointer I shot during rifle season in ulster county. I'm pretty sure I have pictures of him from at least the last 2 seasons. I would like to think he is at least 3.5
