Something to think about
« on: June 10, 2023, 01:10:47 PM »
With over 20 million illegals in this country I have noticed and heard about more and more of them taking everything they catch regardless of seasons or limits it will continue because no one is going to stop them

Not just illegals, in Amish country the Amish ask to hunt during the deer season on other peoples property so they can poach deer on their own property in the off season.

small ponds are being emptied?  Do you have specific ponds in mind?  Cause if not it just sounds like a hateful post.  You can find all sorts of articles about people white, minorities, legal and illegal breaking wildlife laws.  Hell whenever a big buck gets poached its always some local dude, not a migrant.

Its more of a culture thing then them having no respect about fishing regs. Most immigrants come from a country with no fishing regs. I have family in Ireland. You can pull off an fish any pond or lake you want. You can also pull off the road an hunt anywhere you want. Here in NY theres so many rules that everyone eventually breaks them. There no catch an release. You fish to eat an have fun while doing it.
With that being said the only way to crack down on poaching is to call when you see something off.

I can remember bringing my kids down to the Jersey Shore on vacation, and going crabbing from a pier out into Barnegat Bay.  Early in the year all the crabs are small, and we're usually just scooping them with nets as the tide carries them past the pier, then letting them go.  There are even saw cuts on the railings of the pier showing the 4½" size limit for the crabs, so no excuse for keeping anything undersized.  Yet almost every time we're there, there are groups of people, usually families, obviously not from the US, that have very large coolers literally overflowing with undersize crabs.  I kind of rationalize that they'll be eating every one of them, so they aren't wasted, but that's a lot of crabs.  One time after they asked if they could have our crabs since we weren't keeping them, I tried explaining that they were undersized and not legal to keep, even showed them the cuts on the railings for the 4½" size, and suddenly nobody spoke english anymore.
