Just started mine yesterday. I’ll use my oil burner until it starts to freeze then it’s time to do the reload 2 times a day for 10-12 cords. House stays at 70, shop at 50 and unlimited hot water that will boil the skin off your arm. I enjoy the wood processing (as long as I’m not rushed) to beat me into some shape. It is a lot of work but worth the reward.

I have a wood furnace in my basement, I use 4-6 cords , and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Love it!

I love burning wood.  The whole processing is very satisfying especially when you cut all of your own.  With the transition from my old house in Kerhonkson to a new construction build in Olive underway, this is the first season in a long time that I will not be burning wood.  Back at it year, as long as things stay on schedule!

I heat my place with a RSF high efficiency fireplace. It is air tight and has a glass front so we can watch the fire when we are in the mood. It also has some ducting and a fan to distribute the heat to the far end of the house. It is not as efficient as a wood stove, but it looks good and keeps the place warm.

I buy log length firewood and cut and split about 8 to 10 cords a year. As others have said, it is enjoyable work and good exercise as long as I can do it at my leisure. And it is a lot less expensive than heating with oil.

When the time comes to replace my oil fired boiler, which is over 30 years old, I plan to look a for wood fired  boiler with oil backup.

That is a lot of wood, however myself and 2 others battle weekly to keep my buddy’s mom’s greenhouse heated.  It chews through roughly 30 full cord per year.  About 1.5 per week.

Yeah... I cut the barbed wire with lineman's pliers leaving enough so I could see it. It was a 36-38" DBH maple that also had light gauge livestock fencing attached. I used a splitting maul to chop off most of the fence side of the tree before sawing it. I did pretty good... found one fence staple that did minor damage to a few teeth. That was much better than the deeply embedded nail I hit yesterday in a big oak that took the tips off every tooth! Glad I had an extra chain and an extra saw with me!
