How blamed farmers??  Who pointed fingers?  Please point it out for us or is it just babble?  And how does it go from guys on here finding dead deer all over the place and the stench of death to they changed their eating habits??
I don’t try to be this way on this website but sometimes the know it all’s gotta be called out.

Sorry if I "babbled" but people "hearing things"(post 50) that it came in to the area in hay that was imported into Goshen (that kind of covers the blamed farmer deal) or Greensider saying in his "babble" that NY should ban all imports of anything plant related(farmers do sell plants) sort of points fingers.  Other posts (#6)on this were people asking if they had seen deer not come to the usual places they have been seen.  i was just pointing out that there may be other causes for deer changing their patterns other than this pathogen. I was wrong saying post said cows, it said horses.  EHD, as i started my last babble, i will say again is no joke and a bad deal!

Ny needs to ban all imports of anything plant related far to many invasive things

Sorry if i misunderstood your post.... thanks for clearing it up i agree- that there are way too many invasives that have caused large scale losses and damage to our ecosystems

I've been in the woods a few more times recently and haven't found any more dead deer.  I'm also seeing more deer in the residential neighborhoods and more sign in the woods than I was seeing 4-6 weeks ago. Seems like the kill off has slowed down here in the Town of Ulster south of Kingston. Anyone else experiencing this? I am optimistic enough that I applied for DMPs... will make up my mind about using them as the season approaches.

More than likely the less sign was because of bucks antlers getting hard and what ever affects all deer at that time of year they always disappeared then become more visible later in September

Ken i dont think you understand whats going on down here bro the absence of sign has nothing to do with the deer horns getting hard these guys been hunting all there lives and know how deer patterns change throughout the year..

I definitely pay attention to what’s going on but the time frame mentioned is when things change every year

I don't think this was the seasonal changes at work. Even when I didn't see the deer themselves there was plenty of evidence in those woods that they were around... the usual tracks, scat, browse, bits of hair, beaten down trails, etc. of even fawns and young deer were not in evidence. At my parents' home the usual herding up in the late afternoon wasn't happening either--a neighbor has been feeding them damaged or otherwise spoiled produce for decades. Having 20 or more deer show up was the norm regardless of the availability of natural browse.

This daily feed fest was at least in part due to the herd over-browsing the area... I took down dead, dying and damaged trees at my parents' home and had deer eating the maple leaves at the crown while I was bucking the tree from the base. They didn't back off until I was maybe 15-20 feet from them with a running chainsaw... and then they came right back in while I was picking up the firewood rounds. My parents' property backs up to woods and there is a larger woods a couple hundred yards up the road on the other side of the road. Back in July before the EHD hit, I pruned a bunch of trees there (maple, poplar, mulberry) and a couple bucks and a doe followed me around as I moved the cuttings in a wheelbarrow... they devoured the leaves while it was on the ground waiting for me to pick it up and while in the pile for future burning.

Note the browse line on the yews in the background behind the two bucks that were following me around... They disappeared. Haven't been back since EHD hit. Other deer have been going to the daily feeding again but in much smaller numbers.  BTW, DEC wasn't terribly interested when told about the feeding...  The guy is 80 so it won't continue for too much longer as he is noticeably slowing down.
