Bad taxidermy
« on: July 23, 2021, 10:39:42 AM »
Guys I had something unfortunate happen to me so I wanted to make sure to share my experience so others stay away from this business. Have any of you ever used Neves Taxidermy in Bethel? I grew up passing this place so I figured give him a shot. He was more expensive than other euro guys but was local and I figured professional work was worth it. Well he made the mistake of beginning to saw for a skull cap before remembering I wanted a euro. Mistakes happen. At this point he should have called me. I’m an understanding guy and as long as the meat is fine I’m ok. That is the truth. But instead he decided to sell me some story that somebody must have shot him with an old school broadhead to slice the bone. He said he noticed scarring when skinning it and realized what it was from when he got it out of the bugs. All lies.

I had my doubts about a broadhead doing that to bone but you hear all types of crazy oooo happening to deer and them surviving so I believed him. Plus he has had that business longer than I’ve been alive so I trusted him. I didn’t realize it was a saw mark until I posted it on Facebook.

Again, mistakes happen. This review is not about the mistake. It’s about the layers of lies and even when I reached out, not asking for money, just the truth, he doubled down.  I learned a valuable lesson about trusting people.

And what the elders tell me is right….  people do weird things for big bucks.

I agree Louie. That’s a 100% saw cut. That lie he told cuts deeper than the saw cut in the skull. I’m sorry it happened.

Saw cut for sure, and the sad thing is that he lied about it. As a professional, he could have admitted his mistake and easily fixed it. Unbelievable!
It can be fixed if it bothers you. Not that big of a deal to fix.

That’s a ridiculous story. Don’t sweat it though, can fix that to where it won’t be noticed. Have you scored that deer? Amazing symmetry

Man, what a buck!  To be honest, kind of a cool story too.
The way I see it, you have an awesome buck to show people and at the same time tell the story of what this guy tried to lie to you about. This way, you can show people, like us, an awesome buck that you took home and get to blast the guy that double downed on a stupid lie so others won’t go to him. That saw mark takes nothing away to how awesome it must have been to walk up to this deer laying on the ground.

we as taxidermist all make mistakes. I learned my lesson. about 15+ years ago when I used a different Cape on someone's deer without telling him. .let's just say it didn't work out and I ended up giving him the mount free and a free mount for the future... call him have him fill the saw cut and dip the skull in camo I'll bet he wont charge you.. tell them your a friend of mine.

As we sportsman put trust into other professionals hands mistakes happen the lie was the worst thing to do but I really don’t think the truth would of helped in the matter either it’s an easy fix and another story to tell people nice deer for sure congrats

Thanks guys for the support. I’m going to keep it as is. As least the saw cut is symmetrical and most people who will actually see it on my wall won’t even notice (most people don’t hunt or care let’s be honest).

And just to reiterate, only reason I wanted to leave a review for this place is because the lies were on many levels. Even when given the chance to just own up to it he decided to become ooooooo and act like I was in the wrong.  The guy is a real piece of work.  There is no way for me to demonstrate my way of thinking to you guys but I’m being honest when I say I care more about the meat than the horns. This is not me complaining about a “professional” making a mistake.” He lied because he knew I was newer and would believe it.  Now that I’ve told the story to a few others people have similar stories with him playing these games. It’s sad really
