Anything recognize the lack of food? The areas I hunt in 3M have ZERO food this year. I’m referring to acorns. Areas usually blanketed in acorns have zero, not even one. Once the orchards were picked and the ground fruit rotted, it became a ghost town. I don’t believe Im in an area hit hard by EHD and I haven’t seen a damn thing. Simply lack of food for us here. I’ve scoured many miles wth no sign of substantial food
I feel like, for me, the years when we have tons of acorns I actually see less deer. It’s almost like when there’s that many the deer don’t really move around much because they don’t have to.

Say what you want, the people that know what’s going on, know the herd got decimated in a lot of The area. The numbers will speak for themselves.

Seems like every time someone brings up EHD, and what it’s done to the herd, they immediately get accused of being a pessimist or a bad hunter.  No, it’s being a realist..this year I said goodbye for the next four years, to the areas Ive hunted for twenty five years. I have cell cams for weeks, monitoring trail intersections, that used to have deer family groups coming through daily. Now, I get the occasional lost button buck.  These are in areas Twenty miles apart.

Nobody, is saying they’re all dead..but as we all know, shooter bucks are not easy to come by on a normal year and with 70% gone, it just got that much harder.

Ok this is how i see it why are you hunting where the herd was decimated by a disease are you going to shoot and kill one of the remaining deer and further the loss or should you just abandon the are town county or what ever it takes to find a healthy herd i am not accusing anyone of anything except complaining about something that can easily be fixed by going somewhere else aww you have to drive another hour so what people go to the daks every year to hunt the Catskills are loaded with big bucks and had a healthy herd and is just a half to an hour away

Lol I don’t pay property and school tax on property I own just to run all over the state chasing deer. To some people there is pride that goes with the land you hunt, the same land you hunted with your dad when you were a kid, the same land that you eventually take your kids to hunt. I’ll be the last person to go somewhere public that a bunch of other people could be all over the place. I don’t see this as people just complaining that they aren’t seeing deer, more as upset that the disease hit and decimated the areas that mean a lot to them. It’s easy to say stop complaining and go somewhere else when you don’t even hunt there in the first place

I hunted the Hudson valley for 40 years back when I went entire seasons without a deer sighting so fyi i do know the area and have had bad seasons but if you’re soooo concerned about the population why in the h are you in the woods at all trying to reduce it more there is no good reason and as for hunting land you pay taxes on your paying taxes on all of the public land and there aren’t as many people running all over the place in most cases i grew up hunting public land it is complaining without making a change also the numbers will reflect a drop not just because of ehd but because the new reporting system sucks and I have heard many guys saying they gave up trying it was to much trouble

Guys that hunt in areas where EHD hit hard asking other guys if they are seeing any deer or nice bucks.
Guy that hunts 3 hours away not affected by it and has plenty of deer around him tells them to quit complaining and “gut up”. Lol. And people wonder why sites like this are a dying breed.

As you can see that I said in an earlier post that I am lucky enough to be just outside of the affected area, the deer numbers and sighting where I am are fine. All I’m saying is that I feel for the guys who I’ve seen post on this site for a long time that have been badly affected by this. I’m not into kicking people while they are down...

Herd was dropping before this year in fact hudson valleys herd overall has been down so has its turkey population definitely sucks not seeing deer but 70 hours is about a week and a half  hunting I have put in at least 40 each of the last 2 weeks and just about every afternoon since opening of archery

OMG...All those hours in the woods and you’re still not tagged out? Sounds like doing something wrong to me, or maybe hunting the in the wrong area😜

I dont travel to shoot deer ive hunted the same woods for the past 25 years. ive gone whole seasons not seeing a single doe until muzzy season. Friends will invite me to other hunting areas but i dont go. Something about hunting the area that i hunt. Deer or no deer I love the area and the challenge regardless what others tell me. Oh and about the dying forums yes Dec will be 11 years that ive had this forum up and running and hoping some of you bubble heads get the hell off of facebook so we could make 12. ;D. Good luck .

I enjoy hunting my farm and only go elsewhere for small game these days.  I could hunt 1,000's of acres of great land but choose to hunt here.  It's all very personal.
I have not seen a legal buck this year other than the ones on my game cameras. I don't do Facebook.  My area has no mast crop, and less deer although I have not found any evidence of blue tongue death. Like most things in life I see a combination of factors here for the change including bears and coyotes taking down many fawns in the spring.  Very few turkey around from what?  More fisher, more raccoon, less mast, wet spring nesting, turkey disease plague that hasn't been ID'ed yet,   hawks owl deal, too may being killed?  One thing is constant---it's called change fellas.  Just like last year but different.

 (beers)
