2019 Ashokan Reservoir Reports
« on: April 07, 2019, 08:03:01 PM »
Upper seems to have more activity than lower right now. Tossed some spoons at Flat Rocks, then moved to Mile Long for the morning. Only saw one brown netted today. Upper right above the Spillway seems to be more productive with some decent 4 to 5 lbers coming out over the week. I had luck with big flash and slow retrievals.

Boats allowed on the Ashokan (and Rondout). Was windy on Saturday, but I got my limit on browns. Sunday, also windy. Threw back 4 bass and kept one brown. Was fishing close to shore, about 45 feet out. Saw a guy pull in large trout from the shore about 10:30 AM.

Was it sluggish in the morning or good? I noticed the bite didn’t pick up until the afternoon, at least for me.

I found that fishing better in the afternoon, especially whenever the wind calmed. I used saw bellies, which Tom has.

Stream fishing again today, two browns and a surprise redbreast sunfish. Hitting Rondout from shore tmrw and Pepacton in the boat Sunday.

Worked the Lower with spoons. Went 1 for 3 in the afternoon. Focused on coves with protection from the wind.

Late report but last Sunday went out on the upper basin and got a 16" smallmouth, 15.5" brown and 23" brown trolling Michigans. Went to Sylvan Lake early in the week and got 4 browns 13-14.5"
