Family Lake Vacation - Where to go
«

Hi guys
We are thinking about heading north to Maine or New Hampshire this summer for a family vacation. Wife, kids, sister, BIL, and maybe a few others. Thinking about lakefront where the kids can fish and possibly tagging along our little aluminum vhull. Doesnt have to be trophy fishing just productive family fun fishing swimming etc.
Looking for suggestions where fishing is productive but where there is also things to do near by.
Kennebunk, cadillac mountain, winnepesauke, Acadia, booth bay, Freeport. Could even be a small lake or wouldnt rule out being near beach. I know nothing about NH or Maine.
Thanks!

Never been, but I've heard Nahmakanta Lake Camp in Maine is supposed to be really nice. Look them up, they have a website and different options available.

Take a look at Lake Bomoseen VT. I have a house on that lake. You can stay at the Lake Bomoseen Lodge, or better yet, for a large group may be cheaper rent a house for the week. Most houses have boat lifts for your boat, the lodge has dock space. For day trips it's 45 minuets to Great Escape in Lake George, and 45 minuets to Killington where they also have summer activities. Fishing is good for kids, plenty of perch and stuff. Bass fishing is good too, and there are browns if you want to give that a go, but they are not easy.

My sister and BIL rented a house in the Finger Lakes a few years ago and my wife and I went out for a couple of days. I caught a couple of smallies off the back dock, BIL and nephews went out for lakers on a charter and did well. Lots of wineries too. Watkins Glen State Park was amazing.

Alex Bay Area 1000 islands NY and Canada-- get a 3 day license in Canada so you don't have to worry about what side of the line you are on. SMB, northerns. Uncle Sams tour, lots of stuff to do with kids, mini golf, etc... camp cheep or go big and rent an island house. Cross over the bridge to get some real beer.

Acadia is amazing, Bar Harbor is right there also. LL Bean is cool. Check ahead they hold introductory type classes, might find one that interests your family. Might want to check out a lighthouse too.
If you cut through Vermont on your way, Orvis and the American Fly Fishing Museum are right next to each other'
New Hampshire, Mt. Washington. And it may not be your cup of tea, the Hope Cemetery. The monuments are incredible. Castle in the Clouds was interesting also.

Spofford Lake in the southwest corner of NH is worth a consideration IMO. At 750 acres, small enough where you should be able to take a small aluminum out without dealing with huge wakes. Large enough to not be too boring. Crystal clear water. 15 minutes from Brattleboro VT and Keene NH.
