They had no record of my recertification even though I've been diligent about recertification.  Was able to submit a new one and you're correct, it is only good for three years now.  Thanks for the heads up, crickets from NY about it.

I read something on this site (prior version) about it a couple years ago and renewed then, now I see it's three years.
The grip on this stuff just gets tighter and tighter.  SMH

I've heard if you don't recertify on time they come and take all your guns, not just the handguns.

Don't want to call out anyone or cause them trouble, but going back a few years when I first moved here from NJ I had a run in with one of the county sheriffs.  Not a patrol guy, the actual elected sheriff.  My pistol league buddies were talking about how our local guy was a big pro 2A supporter, which stuck in my mind.
So anyway, I'm driving to the clinic for my company's annual physical, and a girl crashes her car right there as I watched.  She bounced around a bit into the woods, but seemed OK when I went over to check on her.  Within a few minutes, county sheriff officers were there and called in ambulance response, so I decided to leave.  As I'm leaving, the head sheriff shows up and we talk for a couple minutes.  I still had NJ plates on my car, and he asked about that and why I didn't switch yet.  I said I wasn't sure the job would work out at first, but that I liked it here and would be changing everything over now.  Then I told him his name came up at our club meeting a week or two ago.  He then went into a very spirited dialogue about how the safe act was BS and that nobody would ever be charged under that as long as he was the sheriff.  He said if you were a drug dealer and they came to your house, that was different, but the rest of the registration and the assault rifle stuff was nonsense and he would not enforce it.  Remember, at that point I'm just some guy on the road with NJ plates on his car.  That told me that he felt pretty strongly about it.  He said that the other sheriffs up our way felt the same as him, and there was no love lost for Cuomo.
Got me feeling a lot better about local law enforcement up here.

These reminders are one good reason to keep this site alive!  It appears that the system was designed to harm gun owners as  the state doesn't send out reminders...

Thank God I read this string - today is 1/24/2025 when I read the string...I decided I better check the website to see my renewal status, my permit was due to expire 1/25/2025 which is tomorrow!!  I had previously renewed 1/25/22, so it's definitely only 3 years for renewal (used to be 5).
It is relatively easy to renew, especially if you haven't sold or added any pistols or revolvers.
Question: If you previously owned a semi-auto long gun prior to new rule, do you still need to get the semi-auto endorsement?  Do you need the semi-auto endorsement for semi-auto pistols?

The endorsement is for SA Rifles.  SA pistols are covered on your pistol permit as they always were.  SA Rifles owned prior to the rule change don't require the endorsement, but I had it done anyway when I was adding another pistol to my permit.

Thanks for the information on the SA endorsement - bunch of B.S. but that's NY for ya!  If it wasn't for the City and Ulster County, NY would maybe have went Red last election.

they make it appear hard to answer YES to "Are you requesting to have information concerning your firearms license recertification exempt from public record?"

i just jumped down and selected number 4

"I have reason to believe that I may be subject to unwarranted harassment upon disclosure."
