old news but not good news
« on: November 13, 2024, 06:32:59 PM »

Today i purchased 2 boxes of 410 shotgun shells.  After completing the required paperwork for the "safe act" and waiting 15 minutes I proceeded to the checkout----$83.40 for 2 boxes of 2 1/2" shotgun shells so I can hunt small game. Can't help thinking how I filled out more paperwork than an asylum seeker entering our state under the governors "rules" or should I say lack of rules.

I have a nice reloader for 12 gauge, a leftover from when my dad and then I used to shoot trap.  I've looked at getting the accessories to also load .410 on that (and 20 gauge) but don't really shoot enough of those to make that worthwhile.  I ended up buying a "survival" reloader for the .410 from eBay, and that was roughly $100 delivered.  It can load 2½ or 3 inch shells, and while I have not loaded any ammo with mine yet, their videos show it being an easy enough process, and it seems to produce decent looking ammo.  Lots of positive stuff on the internet about it as well.
You'd need to buy wads, which come in bags of 500 for <$20, primers, which you may already have for a muzzleloader, and some lead shot, which I already have in 7½, 8, and 9 from the 12 gauge stuff.  You'd also need to buy powder if you don't already have that.  I have 296 and Lil Gun from magnum handgun loading, so didn't need to buy that either.  So for the cost of less than 100 rounds of .410 ammo, you can then load your own, and possibly customize your loads for different applications.

I went to Cabelas. ---out of stock.  I went to the Kittery TP in Maine--only 410s in stock were 5 packs of slugs and self defense 5 packs for a pistol.  Walden Thruway out of stock unless you wanted self defense pistol loads.  Same deal trying to find 375 Win--going to have to start reloading.  We have to get major changes in our lack of government.  Power hungry socialists who know whats best for us simple people need to get another line of work. We have less freedom with more costs living here with their nonsense.  Unfortunately most of our laws are voted in South of the GW bridge and we have little to say about anything here in the empire state.

I bought cases of Winchester AA .410 shells and then reloaded them. During the big ammo shortages in the past I never had problems finding AA shells... "hunting" ammo was a different story. Might be worth exploring that as the AA shells have good hard shot.
