A place you could tell us all a little about yourself. Are you a hunter, fisherman, etc? No need to tell us your name or address just a little about yourself and how you came about this site.

Haly Caller AKA Frank Lapp I lived the High Falls area for 30yrs then moved to Parish NY about 10min south of the big fishing hole Pulaski I lived there 9 years and now reside in Cincinnatus NY About 10 min east of Cortland Ny My wife and I are the owners of Hally Caller Wildlife Calls and also work as a corporate safety manager for a concrete company We love to hunt and fish but Bowfishing at night is my Passion

Ron Lambertson, founder of New York Sportsmen Forum. I'm 42yrs old and live in the town of Wawarsing. I'm happily married for 20yrs with 2 great kids (one in college and one in middle school). I work full time for the phone company as a repair tech. and have been a taxidermist for the past 15yrs. I've been an avid hunter and fisherman here in the Hudson Valley all my life.
-
David Poppo, I work full time for NYSDOCS, part time for Canal Street Cutlery, co-owner of Wise guys excavating, owner of Razors Edge sharpening service (yes I work hard but play even harder). I've lived in Ellenville all my life (38 yrs). I spend about 100 or so days a year hunting, fishing, but most people know me as a predator hunting finatic.
-
Im Michael, life long resident of the area for 34 years now, I say 29 with 5 years experience LOL Im a father of 3 boys and 1 girl, and yes I have had all of them fishing and in the field introducing to hunting.
I fish, hunt, did some trapping when I was younger. When I was a teen and early 20's before marriage and kids, I was crazy fisherman and hunter, now it alot harder with life but I still find the time.
I prefer fishing over hunting, you can almost always let the fish go after you catch it, once you pull the trigger there no shot and release. I do pull the trigger, I have deer in the freezer along with squirrel and some crappie.
That alittle about me, we will learn more as we go.
-
Ed oetzel,I live in Ellenville ny,Love to bow hunt and its great to have a site like this to share.like to shoot 3ds and use a recurve for my bowhunting and like to blackpowder hunt.Anyone in the area thank wants to get together or shoot get in contact...ED

twiggler, Aka Bill Terwilliger, Heard about this site from a friend of mine, great idea Ron! Ive hunted and fished NY all my life, great place to live and HUNT! I live in Saugerties and Ill tell ya, we shoot some good bucks up here, but it seems to be gettin harder every year. Not only killin good bucks, but just even seein them. So in 03 I started huntin the Midwest, and let me tell ya, once you start huntin out there you'll be hooked. Ive managed to harvest 2 great bucks out there so far. And I cant tell you how many 130in. animals Ive let walk. For me its worth it just to see those deer cruisin through the woods. So if you get a chance to hunt out there GO!! you won't regret it. Good huntin!

Lou Lynch, 37 and live in Accord NY (Akerd as the locals say). After checking the member list, I recognized a lot of the names, hoping to get to know the rest of you as well. Thanks to Ron for putting this together, I too was looking for an online community that was a little more local than the ones that were out there.
I make my living on the web. I am an internet professional specializing in web development, marketing, lead generation and other boring crap that makes my time in the woods much needed. I am also a director on the Hudson Valley Quality Deer Management Association (local QDMA branch). From my experience with the association so far, I know that some sportsman are firmly for or firmly against some of the principles practiced by QDM'ers. I am open minded to both schools of thought but firmly believe QDM is the future of deer hunting in our area. That said, I promise not to pull out my soap box. After all, we sportsman are a dying breed and few in numbers, no need for us to be divided.
Looking forward reading more!

Jay Rowe, Grew up in Saratoga Springs, Moved Down to Kignston when I was 6. Still visit the North Country quite often. Fishing Junkie. Stripers are my favorite, followed by hard water, then salmon and brownies in the fall upstate. I love to hunt whitetails and long bears as well, but lately I have been gettign more and more excited to check my trail camera pictures as the season progresses. Actually WEM on here called in my very first long beard 6 years ago, and I gotta full body mount done on it. Thanks again Bill, and rob psycho turned me on to this web site. When Striper season rolls around, if anyone wants to go fishing, lemme know, always room on the boat.
-
Scott Roger, lived in Wappingers my whole life. I'm 21 years old and I am in school but also working two jobs, one of which is at the Lodge at Dicks Sporting Goods. I am mostly a whitetail hunter and do everything from the start of bow to the end of black powder. I do enjoy to fish freshwater a bit but mostly just saltwater, some shore fishing from the beach and a lot of stripers and blues from the boat.

What's up my fellow anglers and hunters of the Hudson Valley. Heard about this site from a friend of my friend, so far it's I like the site. A little background on me is I'm a freshwater fisherman. I target bass mainly, and other fish like catfish or trout secondly depending on my mood (lol). I strongly support catch & release. I haven't kept a fish in over 5 years, too many people in my area over harvest fish, which has created a low catch size and catch rate. I recently graduated with my associates degree in natural resources and wildlife technology, and will be heading back to school in August to get my bachelors to become a fisheries biologist. If anyone knows of an agency or private company that does environmental work and needs a knowledgeable summer employee give me a holler, because the DEP & DEC isn't hiring. With that said see you guys on the water...Oh my name is Big Steve
-
OK...I'll go;
Dan;but I do respond to Dinsdale and its better to shout that at me cause I will look.44,single,carpenter/cabinet maker.
Grew up outside Buffalo, where I did a little fishing, mostly bass, some trout down in Northern Pa. where I spent alot of summers with relatives.
Never owned or even shot a gun til I was invited to a informal trap shoot when I moved here to the Red Hook area at 24.Thought that was damn cool,so the next year did my hunter saftey course.First hour of the first time I ever deer hunted;shot my first doe.Was all alone, and that must have been some sight watching me gut that animal.LOL But I got it done with no slip ups.
That kinda got me hooked and have been fortunate to do a fair bit of big-game hunting in a couple of places out of state and country. Most of my interests lay there in big game;but I enjoy just about anything hunting or fishing.
This economy has taken a chunk out of my travel plans being in the trades,so I have spent more time playing in our neck of the woods the last year or two.Sometimes you find you have some cool stuff in you own backyard.
-
Chris Miller, i am 25 yro im from staatsburg but Ive traveled most of my life 3rd generation US Army but im back home now working as a police officer, im married with a beautiful 5yro daughter she looks like her mother lol and a son on the way due Nov 12Th. Hi gang! I'm not sure why it took me so long to find this site, but thanks to an ad from of all places, craigslist, here I am! I'm Mark Provie, and I'm 47 .. I grew up in New Paltz, but currently live in Highland.. I caught my first fish, and killed my first deer, squirrels , and waterfowl along the banks of the Wallkill.. While I currently work as a stock trader/trading system developer, I have worn many hats in my life.. Starting at my dad's butcher shop at a very early age (Jack's on Main st. New Paltz).. I spent over 20 years in the sporting goods business.. working at Sunset Sporting goods in NP right out of high school, and returning as Tony's manager in the last few years before his closing..( Some of you may remember me as the OTHER big bearded guy.. with the darker whiskers ;) ) In between I worked at a large independent store in central NJ , managing their archery and fishing depts. I am needless to say, an avid (approaching rabid) outdoorsman.. I hunt big game with gun, bow and muzzleloader, with my first and deepest love being archery.. (hunter) I also love small game and waterfowl hunting.. I started fishing Stripers in the Hudson in the late 70's, and continue to fish hard in both fresh and saltwater.. While I greatly enjoy Steelheading and fishing for all the Hudson Valley has to offer, my fishing has taken a turn more towards the salt in the last few years, and I now keep a boat down on Raritan Bay to pursue that obsession.. And as if I don't have enough "hobbies" I started building fishing rods a few years ago, which along with a little ice fishing, helps me maintain my sanity in the winter. So anyway, I'm glad to be here, and hope I can contribute in some way.. Thanks for having me ;D (beers)

Great to have you here Mark. Looking forward to reading your posts. (beers)

Just wanted to quickly introduce a new member that I have been hounding to get onto this site for almost a year now. He's been reading the posts now for a while but has recently registered using the name "The older bro". It is a fitting name as this member is in fact ... my older bro. With no father to speak of, he learned most of what he knows about hunting (and just about everything else in life) on his own. He introduced me to hunting and has taught me most of what I know. He's one of the best guys I know!
If you see him posting, please chime in and make him feel at home!
-
not a problem lou... look forward to hearing from him

23 years old. Heard about this site from "the warden". Avid Flyfisherman.I am origionally fromthe Hudson Valley but I have been living out west for the last 5 years in Utah, Wyoming, Montana, and Colorado. Traveling around the western states working on natural gas pipelines as a horizontal directional drill operator and in my spare time fly fishing some of the best fresh water in the country and even the world. Somehow i always end up back here in the beautiful Hudson Valley around this time for hunting season. I have always been strictly a rifle hunter and this will be my first year with the bow. i can't wait for Oct. 16th. Everyone on the site has been very friendly and helpful so far and i recognize alot of names and people in photos. good luck to everyone in the upcoming season.

Hope everyone is having fun gearing up for the season opener. My name is Travis, I am a 27, and I live in central Westchester. I actually am relatively new to the region. I grew up my whole life split between Southern New Jersey and Potter County Pennsylvania. Learned the ways of the woods out in PA from my grandfather and never looked back. I just recently moved to New York about 4 years ago after returning from a second deployment to the Middle East.
I spent a little time away from the woods as I started my career in NYC, but I am looking to learn the lay of the land and ready to go this season. Very excited to get out in the woods and see what NYS has to offer. Like I said before, I am pretty new to the area so I am hoping to meet some people or get some helpful tips from this forum. Anyone who is looking for a hunting or fishing partner send me a PM. Looking forward to be an active part of conversations on the site, thanks for giving us a place to discuss our past times.

Ollie Cutler, Jr. (Bud) born and raised in Otisville but now living in Wallkill with the girlfriend and my almost 2 year old son, both of which I adore. The boy has put quite the damper on my time spent tournament fishing. Used to fish full time with the 1st Bassmasters of Sullivan County (1stbass.org (http://1stbass.org)) and various open tournaments with my Dad. Excited to be a new member of the site and cannot wait till opening day of bow season. I can taste the back straps now!

I'm not new to the site, but I don't think I've properly introduced myself on here. My name is Dean, I'm 23 years old and currently live in Newburgh. I grew up just south of highland near plattekill and went to school in marlboro. I now work as a dock loader and don't have to go to work until 1pm so I will be able to hunt every morning during weekdays. I love to bow hunt, my number one passion by far. Once the ice melts up until September I bass fish a lot. I just had my best season ever with 5 bass over 5 lbs 12 oz and my biggest going 6 lbs 9 oz. Had about a dozen more over 4 lbs as well. Also love to do other things like ice fish, small game hunt, coyote hunt, spring turkey, striper fish and a few trout outings.

Hello all.
Just found this site and it looks good.
I am mostly a hunter, haven't done any serius fishing in years. My passion is Deer and Turkey.
I have been hunting the same land in Dutchess County for 35+ years. My father and his friends bought some land in the early 50's. There is only 1 origanal member left, and I am the only off spring still on the land. Property taxes (school) are killing us and we don't know how long we'll be able to hold on.
We don't get much in the way of trophy deer, but we put meat on the table.
My avatar is a buck I caught on the camera last year, never saw him again.
x:) (hunt)
-

Welcome 88! Now that we are close friends. How about sharing some information with me about the Albany County Bow only zones. PM me, no need to share that info with the rest of the thugs here!
Seriously welcome aboard!
-
Scot. Don't do much public land hunting. I belong to the BSC (Bethlehem Sportsmans Club) and they have about 250 acres to hunt. Use to live right near some of the bow only areas in Albany and they are loaded with deer and ticks. Went for a walk once with my golden there and we were both covered head to toe.

Names Anthony Rollman. Grew up in North carolina and recently moved up to NeW york a year and a half ago. Im 18 and a avid hunter and fisher. I go whenever i can. I work only a little so im always out. Opening days are my fav days for fishing or for hunting. Iv only Bowhunted one year and am hooked on it. To me its not about getting a deer during the season but how much you are enjoying yourself out in the woods. Even though getting a deer is amazing.

Hi all, im new to this site. Im a Westchester resident, raised in putnam cty. I was introduced to hunting by my father and uncles. it was a great gift that they gave me. I've hunted successfully with the shotgun and rifle since i was 14 and now at 42, ive taken on bow hunting since moving to westchester. I've hunted state land and i've done well, but with so many bodies and some of them NOT having a clue, I chose to hunt private property. So far this year i've chased a big 6 with the bow but he's always been just outside of my 35-40 yard range. Im looking forward to this saturday. My brother and I have a long tradition of opening day together. He's married with his first kid, but its a tradition that bonds us as brothers. Isnt that what its all about?
Anyway, glad to be a part of what seems like a great website and a good bunch of people.
paul

Hello,
My name is Jeff and I also just stumbled onto this site from seeing it on Craigslist. Wish I'd seen it sooner. I'm 47, retired 5 years now. Born and raised in Queens and moved up to southern Orange County approxinately 21yrs ago. I like to hunt turkey, deer, ruffed grouse and timberdoodle.(please don't ask about my sucess rate-it's not impressive :(). I hunt with rifle & muzzleloader for deer. I have a Springer Spaniel who's a succesful tick hunter (brings home 10-20 a day). I look foward to meeting everyone & contributing to discussions.

Hey everyone,
I live in southern Dutchess county (Beekman) and work in northern Westchester (Shrub Oak) as a HS Math teacher.
As you can tell from my user name, I love to bird hunt with my German Shorthairs. I have my old lady, Dakota and my new big boy Brodie. Dakota is pushing 14, but still has the desire to hunt and has a great nose, although her legs can't handle a long trip. I picked up Brodie in a rescue situation this spring, trained him a little in the yard over the summer, and have taken him out every weekend since the opener. I, and my guests, have shot our limit over him on almost every trip out..the times we didn't were because we missed the birds. He has amazing potential and I will be happy hunting with him for the next 10 years (I hope).
My other passion that I started the last few years is bow hunting. I have resisted for many years because it will cut into my bird hunting time, but since I picked up a bow, practiced and started hunting, I am addicted. I have been able to harvest at least one deer every year for the first 4 years of bow hunting, and this year I was able to shoot a doe on opening weekend. I have shot some bucks, but not anything that big. I will post some pics of some nice deer and bear that I have gotten on my trail cameras when I get time.
Sorry to ramble on, but this looks like a great site and I am happy to have found it.
-

Hi all. Im new to the site and hunting. I have been metal detecting, Scuba Diving, Wreck Finding, And Artifact Hunting for 12 years. This is my first year hunting. I am 31 years old and just had my knee replaced wich has kept me outta work for the past 3 months. I started hunting due to bordom. My dad is a sevear animal lover and dont like that I have been hunting. I went out for turkey trying to get one real bad this fall but didnt get anythig although I went out all day everyday for the past 3 weeks. So I didnt know how I would feel after killing something. So I went pheasant hunting and got 4 nice ones. I had a blast and really enjoyed eating them. I only have 1 left. I love venisen and thats why I am hunting. I want the meat. I got 2 doe tags also to give me a bit more luck you cant eat the antlers so I dont care if its a doe. So anyway sorry for ranting on. I am hoping to get my first deer this week. (Anythings gotta be easyer than turkey hunting. Seriously 3 weeks everyday and didnt see a single one not even a roost site..) Well thanks for letting me rant lol..Good luck all..
-
Welcome funforfree.......good luck on ur turkey mission and your right, venison is great!!!!
-
Welcome aboard funforfree33 - good luck in your adventures, BUT, one thing you will need to learn is "Patience".. turkeys are smarter than you think and will not respond to bogus callings... practice makes perfect.... good luck & hope to see your posts & pics on here soon...
-

Great job to all on creating and maintaining this forum.
I’ve discovered HVS through the recent THR article about ten year old hunting accident victim David Calabrese. Great job to all for helping the family and David. All of the best to David.
I’ve been hunting and fishing the Hudson Valley, Catskills and ‘Dacks for many years with family and friends.
If it wasn’t for my mentor Uncle (and others) – a WWII B-17 hero who introduced me to hunting, fishing, shooting, our environment etc. - I wouldn’t be sitting here writing this short intro.
As a child I remember walking-up into the attic to page through Unc’s stack of old Conservationists’ Magazines. This was an early education for me that eventually had a great influence on my personal and professional life.
I’ve hunted, fished and camped together with family and friends for many years and I’ve got many great pictures and memories that’ll never fade away.
The most important part of hunting and fishing (imho) is the pre and post-hunt pep talk, strategy and old stories - which could last for months until the next opener. This is important because future hunters and fishers are listening to the old stories being told.
A successful hunting or fishing venture is not only about the catch or the kill.
“A family who hunts and fishes together stays together.”
Peace to all for the holidays, new year and beyond.
-
Welcome blackhawk - enjoy this site & a back at you for the best this Holiday Season and in the future. We welcome any stories or pictures you might want to share with us. We're happy to say that this site is attracting numerous younger individuals, the leaders of tomorrow !!

Hi all, Merry Christmas! My name is Jon Lindgren. I am 37 and grew up in Accord. I currently live in Ulster Park. I started hunting with my Dad when I was just old enough to get bundled up and fall asleep next to a tree. Since then I have enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. I like to deer hunt with bow, rifle and muzzleloader.
-
My name is Steve McDonald. I live in Staatsburg, Dutchess County. I am a past president, director and trustee of Neighbor's Gun and currently the Federation Delegate. I am a past director of Ti Yogi Bowman. Currently, Secretary of the Federation of Dutchess County Fish & Game Clubs. I am coming up to 20 years as a DEC Hunter Education Instructor, NRA Rifle & Pistol Marksmanship Instructor. Life-Endowment Member NRA, Regular Member of Compton's Traditional Bowhunters and the American Broadhead Collector's Club. Member of the Hudson River Estuary Management Advisory Commission.
When I am not making or flinging traditional wood arrows, I am somewhere in the Catskills or Adirondacks casting a fly to a hopeful trout, steelhead or salmon.
As I near retirement, will be revitalizing myself as a wildlife artist. Potentially a second career. Hope to anyway.

I thought I did this one time but I'm not seeing it. Name's Eric Post. Live in Coxsackie. Greene County. I love deer hunting first. I'm self- employed and try to hunt every day of deer season. For me it isn't about the kill, it's about having the freedom to hunt. Second to deer hunting is 'yote hunting. Called my first one in last year and definately got the itch now lol. It isn't easy but damn sure rewarding. Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a safe, happy, and lots of outdoor time in the new year...

Hi there, I'm JOHN SKIPP.. Been hunting and fishing since I was 8 years old.... Now I'm 65... Lived in Texas for 5 years other than that have been in the Highland area all my life... Own a cabin in Deleaware county where I now do most of my deer hunting... Have a bass boat where I fish all over the eastern/northern part of NY for bass & pike
-
Welcome Skipp! My dad was part of a group of guys who had a hunting cabin in Delaware county for many years. Where abouts is yours located?
-
Hello everyone, my name is Brian O'Connor. I reside in Olivebridge,NY and have lived here in the Catskills just about my whole life. I have a lovely wife and 3 children. Two boys and a beautiful daughter. My oldest son Kevin passed away in 2002. I graduated from Onteora High School and Paul Smiths School Of Foresty.
I worked for The NYS Dept.of Env.Conservation for 18 years as the "Interior Supervisor",Region3 Trail System. I was a paid woodsman. At times I couldn't believe I was getting paid to do it but, dont get me wrong, it was hard work and definitely a youg mans job. Retiring out early in 1996 to run my business, "Sheldon Hill Forestry Supplies", which was running at the same time. "Sheldon Hill" was started in 1984.
During my years at NYSDEC, I was fortunate to work with some really great and knowledgeable people. Are you listening dhenry and GVL! The places my job exposed me to gave me a huge perspective and understanding of these Catskill Mountains. I feel blessed to take that and apply it to my passion, "Hunting and Fishing". This is what I do to recharge my battery.
My family has always been involved in hunting,so as long as I can remember, hunting has been in my blood. Starting at 7 years old with a Daisy BB gun, I get the same fulfillment today with my pre"64"" Winchester 70" 30-06. Just to be in the woods and blend in with the ecosystem is a feeling, most all of you can understand....need I say more.
Now that my son Troy has turned 12, that family tradition is in full swing with his first turkey hunt a success (16lbs. 9.5"beard). Being there with him when he made that shot gave me a feeling that indiscribable....actually emotional!
Thanks Ron for developing a great sounding board. You have a really good group of people here all of which posess that strong call to the natural world. You all have to be proud of that.......I Know I am. Thanks to all !!
-
Hey guys - glad to have all three of you aboard - sounds like some of you have "in depth" knowledge of the great outdoors. I grew up in Delaware County(Delhi - on the Andes <> Delancey road) and hunted and fished as often as I could.... some big deer up in those hills back in those days...lol
Enjoy this site and the best to you all in the new year.
-
Thanks Tailspin, "Happy New Year"......saw some answers to your "age old question" in the woods this year.....just no direct depositers!! lol

I am a truly blessed person for all I have in my life. My passion is hunting and fishing which is second only to my family.

Welcome Eric. That Round Top area isn't too shaby to hunt in either. It looks like you have 3 good blessings. Family, friends and good hunting... ya gotta love it!
-
I lived in NY most of my life, but live in the Dallas, TX area now. I travel back to Kerhonkson as often as I can to visit my family. I'm not a hunter, but my grandfather and father were, and my brother, son and grandsons are now. So my reason for joining is to see photos of my grandchildren when they get posted here.

Hey HVS Members!
I was just introduced to this forum (thank you Victory Outdoor Sports) and couldn't wait to jump on board. While I used to be out there hunting and fishing I now spend my time behind a lens capturing those who do still hunt and fish.
Being able to photograph someone who's living their Sportsman passion is what I am all about. If you know you're heading to my end of town (nearer to Rochester than Syracuse) please consider including a photographic journal as part of your excursion. I thrive to capture prize photos that will honor your prize trophies.
In the meanwhile, I am off to the forums to live vicariously through your experiences! What a great site!
Laurie

My name is Mike and I just joined this forum. I'm retired from the NYPD a lot of years. After retirement I moved to the Pocono Mountains of PA, then to the Fla Keys, then to the Hunter Mountain area of the Catskills, then to the Jersey Shore. My wife and I just got a small cabin in Haines Falls in the Hunter Mountain area of the Catskills where we are moving permanently in June. I have caught fish from Marlin to Trout and have hunted in all the places I have lived except the Fla Keys. I have been going to the Hunter/Tannersville area since I was a kid camping with my family and my heart has always been in that area. Finally I am able to move where my heart has always been. Anyone here hunt or fish in this area of the Catskills?

Hello all! I have been lurking here for some time and have not introduced myself. Name is John and live in Ellenville. I hunt and fish as often as possible (much to the detriment of my wife's mental state) and find myself checking this site way too much. Loads of information here and thanks to all who provide it.
-
Welcome to the site neighbor ;)
-
Welcome! Nice deer in your avitar to!
-
hi john ,tell your wife to cammo up and hit the woods with u lol
-
Welcome aboard John.
-
Thanks all. The deer is this years bow from Gardiner side of the mountain, 16 inch inside 8 point and big body, I would guess 3.5 years old but didn't age it. I grew up there and have been hunting the land for 30+ years and have never seen anything like the last couple of years for deer size and condition, ya gotta love the antler restriction!
I have tried to get my wife into it but she has no interest in pulling the trigger. She likes fishing once in awhile though.
-
John - welcome to HVS - have a blast with what is available

Hello to all the New Members, especially Nick L., a personal friend who is quite the fisherman. Besides being a fisherman who helps out other fisherpersons. He has shown me a few tricks, and I hope I have added some tricks to his bag of tricks. This page can be of help to the Newbie and the seasoned fisherperson, don't have to give away spots, just tips on what was used and how to use them, and of course what you caught. Tips on lines, lures, type of bait etc.etc.etc.
Ron L.,
Was nice to have met you in person at the Certified Marine Seminar, always good to put a face on the person you connect with. Amazed of the number of people here from Rosendale, I grew up and spent most of my Life down in NYC, BUT.....when I was a kid my brother an I used to come up to Rosendale, and stay at friends summer home a few weeks each summer, until I was 16 I think. The house was on Whiteport Road, funny but the mailbox on their property each spring was shot out!! LOL!! I gotta find out the exact location of the house, I know it's gone, was just the chimney left after it burnt down in the 70's. Some other funny stories connected with that old house.
-
Its was nice meeting you to asportsman. I also grew up in Rosendale on main street the good old days. ;D

Karen - welcome to HVS - sportsmen helping sportsmen and sports-gals too. I know nothing about the Pepacton but one of our other members might.... keep an eye on your post.

Welcome Karen...The boats on all the reservoirs are private no rentals...if you do go fishing from shore be aware you need a permit from NYC DEP...you can get it online.
-
Hey y'all...I'm Tom (49). Born and raised in Stone Ridge, moved to Miami for a while, came home in 91 and set roots in Red Hook.
I married the girl next door 20 years ago and have 2 great children.
I work out of Kingston, performing water quality monitoring throughout the Ashokan and Schoharie watersheds for an environmental agency.
I love all types of fishing from Tuna to Trout. My favorite place to fish is Ashokan...when I'm out there it feels like I own it.
Don't get me wrong...I love ocean fishing and upstate/western NY fishing too but Ashokan has all the great memories.
I fell out of hunting a while back and now I'm trying to rekindle bow and gun hunting for small and big game with my son...it's a blast.
I like this site because its good to see sportman who are willing to share their expertise with others, never understood the "secret squirrel" types.
I'll try and check in when able...and add my 2 cents when i have something worth talking about.
-
Welcome aboard Tom - join the fun here at HVS - good bunch of people on here. Feel free to join in the diversified conversations that take place..... pics are always welcome as well.

Hey everybody, I just stumbled on this site and I have been enjoying the content. Most of my fishing is east of the Hudson Trolling the reservoirs for browns with lead core. I have been considering putting a boat on the Ashokan, I figure it is 1 hour + from my home in Southern Dutchess. If any one has any suggestions on boat areas or which basin I should Choose I would appreciate It. Thanks, Chris

Hello everyone!
I'm Rich Muellerleile, 29 years young, born in Poughkeepsie and raised in the Catskills. Moved to Phoenicia full time 5 years ago for the fishing and found a wife instead (how does that work?).
A few years, 2 beautiful daughters, and a chocolate lab later I find myself perusing the net for Ashokan Reservoir fishing info and happen upon the awesome article on trolling NYC Reservoirs here and was hooked (BTW keep that article up! VERY informative- shows that there is more to fishing the reservoir than bellies and an egg sinker).
I truly appreciate the mentality that members have here- passing on their experience and helping out. The family stuff is great too- posting the pics of your kids out there catching their first trout, nabbing their first buck, and enjoying the outdoors- That is greater than any trophy any day and exemplifies why this forum is a good spot with great people! Hopefully my girls will grace these pages soon enough!
Tight lines and hope to meet you out on the water!
-
welcome to the site turborich! Post some pics when you get a chance.
-
Welcome Turborich! I like the way the way you think! See you on the water.

Hello everyone!
I'm new to the site, and have already gotten lots of tips and help on my bow aiming!!!! I'm 24 years old and last year was my first hunting season in the field. I finished the season with 1 four pointer with my bow, and I still get the chills when I think about the experience!!!!!! I walked out of the woods many times with thoughts of shots I could have taken, but I'm much more cautious than anxious at this stage in the game. I have too much respect for these animals to want to do anything stupid, like take a shot that I'm not 100% I can make!
I'm mainly interested in hunting, but am finding that I cannot maintain satisfaction with this obsession as it is only 1/3 of the year!!! So, I'm going to have to start hiking/fishing a lot more to stay outdoors.
I think I'd like to join a gun club, perhaps Northern Dutchess???? I live in a small apartment, so not much opportunity for shooting/hunting there! I've been bumming off of my partents/future in-laws property for both privledges!
Well, welcome aboard to all the other newbies! Happy hunting!!!
-
Good morning Gentlemen! New guy here referred to the site by Pointer who I had the recent pleasure of meeting and doing some laker fishing with! For those of you fluent in German, my name
gives it away (Jäger = Hunter)! Love to bowhunt, particularly elk. My other big interest is lake trout. Spend a great deal of time year 'round on Lakes George and Otsego as well as numerous lakes in the Adks where I have a cabin. Nothing better than jigging one up through the ice! Anyway, very pleased to join the forum and look forward to some good conversation and contributing to our collective outdoor knowledge! Best regards!
Mike

Glad to hear from ya mike. Thanks for joining.

Jager - welcome to HVS - enjoy what it has to offer & feel free to get involved with things that take place on here.... <º))))>< (beers)

Welcome Timmy. You've arrived at a site that is both informative and funny.

Welcome Tim,
I grew up looking at your father and uncle's deer hanging in Mt Tremper in November as well as the Lane family's. Those memories had a lot to do with putting the hunting fire in me.
Lot's of good people who all share the same passion.

Hey everyone, I'm a lifelong resident of ulster county, but have only in the last 3 years started getting into fishing and hunting. I'm the first member of my family to get involved with this sort of activity, so finding a community like this, especially one with the local expertise, has been fantastic.
I enjoy all kinds of fishing and am slowly starting to suck less at it. I am also interested in bow hunting, but have yet to really learn what the heck I am doing in that regard! Hope to learn as much as I can this season!
-
Welcome mskill. You're in the right place to learn. Just ask and someone will help.
-
Welcome Mike, Timmy, TJ and MSKILL...please feel free to share you expertise as well as your questions....lots of quality folk around here willing to help.

Hey everyone-
New to the site and introducing myself. I am from Dutchess County. I breed, train, compete and guide with German Shorthair Pointers. Enjoy goose and duck hunting. I go to Canada every year with the dogs for grouse and woodcock. I also bowhunt, coon hunt with hounds, rabbit hunt with beagles, predator call, heck we hunt just about anything! I have three young boys that enjoy going hunting and fishing but travel baseball is slowing us down. Not a lot of spare time during the season but if someone wants to get together and see the dogs work on ducks or geese let me know. If you have a spot we can try, even better.

My wife and I are both licensed trappers but we don't trap much (hunt).
I also bring my boat to Conn. RI and Mass for salt water action 8). Been to Lake Ontario a couple of times and need to get back there. I am an Electrical Contractor as well as a Water Supply Contractor. I am also a Volunteer Fire Fighter. (beers)

I have also been watching this site since last year's hunting season and recently joined. I have posted a bit and thought I should introduce myself as well. I originally hail from Northern New York - an hour north of Lake Placid from a little town called Malone. A job offer after college brought me to the greater Hudson Valley and I have been a resident for the past 9 years. While I deer hunt the Catskills (having hunted the Adirondacks), I still head north for the Fall Flight mainly due to the many farms/swamps my family & friends own/have access to. I use to be an avid bow hunter (and still enjoy it when I can get out) up until college graduation, but I got hooked on waterfowl hunting. I now spend most of my September/October/November weekends traveling the Northway to what I know as Upstate NY to lay out in fields or stand in swamps to watch the morning flight. For me, I truly believe in Family, Friends & the Outdoors and have two young kids I hope will enjoy the outdoors the same way I do. This site seems to embolden that and I hope to get to know some of you well enough that we can share a morning flight here and/or in the North Country.

Hi all, Everyone calls me Ziffy, I am a native New Yorker, born on Long Island, then moved to the Kingston area about 25 years ago to teach cooking at the Culinary Institute in Hyde Park (been employed there ever since) I developed a website on striped bass fishing in the Hudson River a few years ago: www.Striperchum.com. I enjoy reading posts on sites such as this, but to be honest, I do not enjoy reading when members engage in criticizing others for certain practices, or techniques. The bottom line is, nobody is perfect, and the whole idea is to share knowledge and develop good relationships . . .at least that is why I do what I do! . . try to create good "striperchums" . . . . Got herring????
-
Welcome Ziffy. You have a interesting website. Based on what you had to say in your introduction you will fit here very nicely. Looking forward to your participation.
-
Welcome aboard Ziffy - the tone of your post is exactly what this site was created for - family & friends communicating their experiences with a positive spin on everything - negativity is frowned upon here on HVS. Thanks for your comments & input. :) :) :) <º))))>< (hunter) (hunt) (BBQ) (beers)
-
Welcome the Reaganator and Ziffy! There are some solid outdoorsman here, enjoy!

Welcome to the site Ziffy...."SPORTSMEN HELPING SPORTSMEN" is what this site is about ;) thanks for your input..

Welcome and enjoy thereaganinator ;)

Hi everyone, just joined today. Great Forum. I am 43 and live on Long Island. Hunted and fished Dutchess County since I was younger. Took a long hiatus from hunting and fishing with work and other time consuming aspects. I am currently getting back into it. Will be duck hunting on the Great South Bay this season and maybe deer/turkey hunting. This spring and summer have been fishing (trout) quite a bit. Just got back from the Blue Mountain Lake area in Adirondacks and caught some nice browns on the Indian River as well as largemouth on a pond of BML. This is a great site. Met some real nice people up in Dutchess. Anyone hunt/fish the Wassaic MUA? I plan on heading up in fall to trout fish all around the hudson valley. Anyway, glad i joined. Lots of great help/advice on the site and since i am just getting back to this it helps.
-
Good to have ya here Sideliner. Welcome back from your hiatus.

-
Man, I'm glad Ronnie's sister Donna told me about this site. I'm very impressed. Spend alot of time on the Matthews forum, but it's good to get the local "scoop". I've hunted and fished in Ulster and Orange counties for almost 40 years. Spent alot of years tournament bass fishing at varying levels and fished the Bassmaster Eastern Invitationals for 5 years. I've kinda gotten away from the tournament scene the last few years and have been focusing primarily on bow hunting with my 3 sons. I was actually fortunate enough to watch each of them take their first deer with their bows, an experience I wouldn't trade for anything.
Glad to be here, and thanks for having me

Hi all, I've been a member for 20 months and visit often. I was born in Poughkeepsie and after school and the Air Force have lived in Tillson for 22+ years. I haven't hunted in years but still love to shoot. I spend a lot of time in the woods, Birding and hiking and still get that "tingly feeling" when fall comes to town. Reading all the posts on this site has stirred a feeling in me that has been dormant for many years. It is time to go back to my roots. I would like to thank all of you for bringing hunting back into my life. The knowledge base on this web site is bottomless. Thanks Ron, and thank you to your brother Gene for telling me about your site over a cold beer at the postage Inn.

Paul Cowell here. While I spent much of my youth chasing fish in WNY, that fell to the side for climbing, photography and work. I've lived in New Paltz for more than a decade, and a few years ago I picked up a fly rod, then more fly rods and I started tying. At some point I fell in love with centerpin and my eyes began to open to more techniques. I've just started to get into row trolling for walleye and muskie in Chaumont Bay based from my families cottage. I'm looking to get a boat on some nearby reservoir and start row trolling near home.
Two years ago I started a blog about fishing and nature that has seen moderate success: http://paulangling.wordpress.com/ (http://paulangling.wordpress.com/) and I'm looking forward to getting to know some of you on this site!

Hello all...
I am an avid hunter and recently moved out of the NY area. I am now living in DC and working for an organization that works with the U.S. Congress, state legislators, state and federal agencies, governors, commissioners, and other sportsmen-based organizations to promote and advance hunting and angling throughout the U.S.
This is my first deer season outside of the Hudson Valley, but I'll get in a couple days when I'm home for Thanksgiving next week. I guess joining this site is my way of staying in touch with my roots.
I'm off to a great start to the season, and took my largest buck to date on opening day of VA muzzleloader season - a massive six point with 24" main beams and 13" g2s (pictured). Jim Brown (Wildlife Encounters) is mounting him for me. Hopefully the best is yet to come. Over the next month I'll be hunting ducks and geese in MD and VA, upland in PA, and deer in WV and NY I'll also be getting after some steelhead in PA in a few weeks. Hope everyone has a great season!

Thank you all, great to be here.
Jim, I'm glad to hear I wasn't too far off in my estimate of him, and will definitely stop in when I'm there. I can't wait to see all the big NY bucks that I've been hearing about this year.
Good luck to you all, hunt smart, stay safe.
-
I am new to this sight. I fish and go deer hunting (rifle). Figured if I wanted to spend time with my Fiance, I needed to do these things. I grew up in a family of hunters, and my brother is a member on here and I LOVE Venison. My first time out hunting I shot a 6 pointer - what an awesome feeling; and have gotten a couple does since then. It's been a a couple years since I shot anything - guess I need to actually see a deer to shoot one. All ready to go out tomorrow - would love to shoot a huge deer.
Good luck to everyone tomorrow!
.:rifle:.

Hi Ladyhunter.
Welcome to the site. I wish you luck tomorrow and hope you have fun.
I can not offer a lot of help with deer hunting but if you ever want to know about turkey hunting feel free to ask me. I am always eager to help.

That's great Ron , I'm glad you posted that...

Great post Ron - maybe this will shed some light on why we were in Iraq & the outcome of our efforts. It is sad that we lost numerous personnel in the process, but historically, the USA has always led the way in fighting for Freedom around the world.

Hi everyone,
My name is Ted, I'm 24 years old and live in Montgomery. I heard about this site from another member. I do most of my hunting in the Montgomery area. We own 10 acres along the Wallkill River. Our property is a triangular piece that starts out kinda narrow at one end and gets about 3 times as wide on the other. I fish the property a little each summer but I spend more time hunting it than anything else. I am also fortunite enough to be close friends with a local farmer who has about 200 acres which I can hunt. I hunt just about everything; deer, coyotes, ducks, geese, upland birds, and rabbits are the usual game. My other passion is trout fishing. I spend a lot of time each year fishing the Esopus Creek above the Ashokan Reservoir, and the Ausable river around Whiteface Mtn. Well I guess that's enough said about me. Any questions feel free to message me!

Hi my name is Michael from Orangeburg, NY. I have been hunting since about 10 years of age. I'm 48 now. Starting with hunting small game with my Dad in Greene county NY. Many fond memories. Started big game hunting at about 16 years old. First kill was a small spike(not proud anymore). In 32 years of hunting big game I have taken all numbers from 1 to 9 horn wise. My last kill was an impressive 8 pointer taken Sunday Dec. 5th 2011 in Goshen NY. This year I took my first crossbow deer. It was a seven pointer taken in Sparkill NY. I have hunted big game all over NY . I enjoy turkey hunting almost as much as deer hunting. I have managed to take 4 with a bow. I have a POPE N YOUNG 8 pointer that I took in my home town in 1997. I was introduced to this site by a much younger member and am proud of his hunting abilities and knowledge.

From New Paltz and started hunting late in life (see full story here: http://myrbou.blogspot.com/2010/02/sheelah-huntress.html (http://myrbou.blogspot.com/2010/02/sheelah-huntress.html)) and this year transitioned to the bow and got lucky. Still another few more days left in late bow season... so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for another one since the first one is half way eaten already!

Hey everyone, my name is Charlie Staby I live in Saugerties . I have been checking out this web site since last winter when a friend of mine mentioned it to me. My friend knows that I'm really into finding arrowheads and artifacts and told me to check out the outdoor activities page and, now I know I am not alone. I am married, have two kids; boy 11, girl 4 and do a little bit of hunting and fishing also. I've done alittle bit of metal detecting and I am looking into doing some more of that as soon as the ground thaws and time allows. Other hobbies and interest include hiking, bee keeping, mushroom hunting, gardening, researching local history, whatever my kids are into (except video games), and thanking god daily.

Thanks for joining chaz ;) looking forward to hearing about your finds.

I have not heard of any 30lb ers caught yet in any of the reservoirs. The salmon in the neversink never really took well i would guess because i only know about 1 taken in the last couple years and i fish this reservoir quit a bit. Although the ashokan has been a mud dump lately some of the locals who know what they are doing still manage to catch some real nice fish. Welcome to the site and hope to hear about some of your fishing adventures.

Welcome to all new members. Look into the HVS discount card well worth the money.Glad to see ya here

Hi my real name is charlie c, haha. Anyways, I've been hunting and fishing in NY forever. I grew up fishing the watershed down here and the LI sound, I mostly do some freshwater bass fishing and tournaments nowadays. I like to hunt for whatever is in season at the time, most hunting time is spent on a couple small westchester properties with the bow. Nice informative website. Enjoying the past trapping posts. Never trapped before, very interesting. Thanks.
-
Welcome to the brotherhood Charlie.
-
Hi. My name is Lance Umhay. My taxidermist told me about the site. I think its great to hear from local people that have the same concerns and enjoyment of the outdoors as I do. Growing up in the area the Catskills have been my stomping grounds. With the abundance of wildlife and wilderness I enjoy everything from fishing to trapping to just being outside. Happy to be aboard.

Thanx for the welcome. No antlers or much sighn of deer. They don't seem grouped up like last year. The same place that I found alot of sheds last year didn't have any rubs, scraps, beds, trails. or even deer poo. Think they all left the area.

Hello HVS! New guy here - I hail from New Jersey. (right over the border) Have done all my hunting in New York though for the last two years.
I've been an upland bird hunter since I could walk about with my dad. Used to accompany him to field trials when I was a young pup myself. Upland hunting over bird dogs will always be my first love and I like pointing dogs (English Setters) as well. Did a lot of deer hunting in various states when I was younger, not so much anymore since my most recent dog. (I actually feel guilty going out and leaving him home!)
I also like target shooting, participated in NRA Bullseye competition for a number of years, and I am an avid reloader. I started getting into milsurps the last fifteen years or so. I wish I could find more time to do everything and of course always enhance my collection of things.
Thanks -
Kevin

Hello everyone, I'm a life-long resident of Orange County. I live to hunt and fish for everything in our region. From brookies and browns in small streams to the great striper resources the Hudson provides. I also have a 25' fishing boat that splits time between Newburgh bay and Keansberg, NJ. I'm an avid bow hunter as well. Although you wouldn't know it the last couple of years. (boo) I never knew this site existed until I blew out my knee a couple of weeks ago and have been out of work. I'm glad I got the striper itch early and stumbled upon the site. I look forward to an early run this year and interacting with other sportsman in our area. Good luck to all. Gregg

Hi I'm new to the site,i like deer hunting and bear hunting with hounds.I also rabbit hunt with my beagles.Ive owned curs for squirrel but there's nothing like the music of a old hound taking a track.I used to coon hunt but have no one interested anymore,so now I'm running beagles.I also hunt turkey.I have hunted pheasant and grouse with dogs. But like I said mostly run rabbits now,but that could always change.Im looking for a camp in the adirondacks now,I love tracking bucks in the snow.Im closer to the Catskills but rarely hunted there.I also fish for trout,Muskie, pike, walley, bass, and stripers.Im always happiest in the woods. Thanks Wayne

Bear hunting with hounds in New York? :o
I see you have walkers on your avatar!Do you run hounds?Ive run bears in new York!!I haven't shot them but there is a training season,if you dont know it starts in June or July and runs till ten days before the season opens.I hunt bear with hounds in wv,tenn,nc,and maine,if I'm lucky I'll get a tag for vermont but its lottery,I haven't hunted nh yet but it's on my bucket list.Sorry I didn't explain that I don't want anybody thinking I'm unethical.Sorry and thanks Wayne
-
Welcome Wayne W. I know a person locally that trains his dogs to run bears and then hunts out of state with them. If you ever wouldn't mind some company on a training run let me know.
-
Sorry no more bear hounds since the big D.I also have friends that train, and go with them evry year and your always welcome to tag along, you do need a big game license to run even if your tagging along. It's a lung buster but if you want some excitement this will get you blood boiling.Just make sure you can run and go find them hounds treed.lol lol lol it's awesome I love it,I'll be heading up to Maine this year with a friend of mine.Anyone that wants to tag along and hunt bear with hounds is welcome.
-
I was hoping that's what you meant Wayne..lol..My walkers only run coyotes. I'm a bigtime coyote hunter. The guy in the grey sweater in my avatar runs bear, coyote, and coon. And my cousin is a bear runner. He only runs bear. He's been doing it for probly 25 yrs. Running bear is definately not for the weak-hearted. I done it a few times. A lung-buster for sure. You have any bobcat dogs? There's quite a few around now. We see track everywhere.....
-
I'm training a bobcat hound now.Shes a 1 1/2 yr old all blue. She loves a cat but we have no snow so she gets messed up and I can't help her out so I'm kind of behind. Those cats pull some crazy tricks. She loses the track when the cat hits the rocks or jumps out.I don't know where the cat goes so she spends time just searching for a track and if she does pick it up the cat is way ahead and we run all day with out a cat. Lol it is fun though.

I live near Kinderhook NY. I am 50 (this Sat.) and have been hunting and fishing for 38 years. I am a traditional bowhunter first and foremost and have hunted in 20+ states, Alaska (9 times), Canada, Mexico, and Africa. I also love to fish and have also traveled to do that as well. I love to catch stripers on the Hudson. I'm a native Hoosier and still travel to hunt whitetail deer there annually.

I'm Ghostbow. I work in the archery and outdoor departments at Kenco with Doublecluck.
Been shooting barebow recurve for more than thirty years. (hunter) I also love canoeing (another true passion of mine), kayaking, hiking and camping. I'm also a primitive and traditional wilderness skills instructor.
I'm not much of a gearhead anymore, other than my inextinguishable love for knives, bows and arrows.
I'm super-psyched about being here. I've met so many great members already and look forward to meeting even more of you moving into the future.
Shoot straight. Peace out.

I'm Robbie, Heard about the site via a friend's friend at work. I am an avid salt water fisherman, especially targeting stripers. Also do some fresh water fishing, but saltwater is my favorite. Fish where ever - often - Hudson River, Connecticut, New Jersey, then depending on vacation at: , Rhode Island, Mass, Virginia and sometimes Outer Banks NC shores. Looking forward to forum. Have not been out yet for stripers on Hudson this year yet. Noticed couple of weeks ago, someone caught small striper at Piermont and that noone was fishing a Croton.

Welcome to a great site everyone. Nice to see the member list growing.

Hi, I am new to this site. I live in New Jersey and am a fresh water fisherman or should I say that I entertain fresh water fish. I normally fish lakes and reservoirs in NJ and am looking to move out into New York and other states as the fishing in NJ is marginal at best. While I enjoy bass fishing, I also enjoy chasing "toothy" fish as my fishing partners call northern pike and walleye.
I am considering trying the Hudson for stripers this year and found your website and thought I might learn new places and new approaches to fishing and tips on river fishing.
I own a 16' Lund that is 20 years old with a 25hp Suzuki and an 8hp Yamaha kicker. I have 2 electric downriggers and a bow mounted trolling motor.
While I live in NJ, I spend a fair amount of time in the Hudson Valley as I travel from NJ north to Poughkeepsie regularly selling chemicals.
As I turned 69 yesterday, I am thrilled to be a "newbie" It has been a long time since I was called that. I do not do a lot of posting but will when I have questions or can be a real contributor.
Thanks to FLAG for the welcome. I look forward to learning a lot from all of you.

Hello, I'm Russ. I live in Newburgh. As a kid growing up all I did for fun was fish and later hunt with family and friends. Somewhere in my mid twenty's I stopped. In the last couple years I've realized how much hunting, fishing or just being outdoors means to me. I've been getting back in the woods pretty regular now, I used to be pretty successful..........seems like I lost a little something along the way!!! Still having a blast though. I'm really enjoying this site so far! A ton of info! Hoping you all can get me back up to speed and maybe a can offer some info in return! THANKS.

Hi all,
My name is Rich I am 47 and live in Cornwall. I grew up on Long Island and my folks moved up to Dutchess County in the mid 80's.
I spent 23 years in the Army and retired in 2007. I spent 13 years of that in Georgia so I am really still getting to know the Hudson Valley. I like to fish freshwater, saltwater and deer hunt. Right now I have been fishing on West Point but I am looking at other places to go in the area so any suggestions would be great. Also have a 12' v hull on a trailer and finding that boat launches are scarce around here lol. Good fishing to all and I am really glad I found this forum.

I have been hunting for many years and have been introducing 1 of my 14 year old twins to hunting and fishing (the other ones is not interested although I made him take the hunter safety course just in case). My son and i and his friend attended the youth pheasant hunt a couple weeks ago and I jast had to say what a great great time we had. A wonderful group of kids and handlers and the people that ran it made it a great time for everybody. If you missed it this year you missed a great time for the kids and the parents. I would like to sincerely thank everybody involved I couldn't wipe the smiles off the kids faces for days. I would especially like to thank Joe who ran it. GREAT JOB TO ALL and what a great way to get the next generation of sportsman and women introduced to the sport. I think everyone there is hooked for life like we are.

Great story...thanks for sharing and welcome aboard

I'm a new hunter. My parents lived on a farm in North Carolina and later Texas when I was young and everyone hunted. But we ended up moving to the suburbs and now I live in the city. After living in urbanization for over twenty years, I decided it was time to get out sometimes and (re)learn how to hunt. So, here I am. I appreciate all the useful advice.
-
welcome to hvs mfolch..there is plenty of good hunting and fishing info here to refresh your memory.

1 year into my HV living, and enjoying the town of Staatsburg. There's not much better than spending time outside, whether it's hiking, hunting, fishing, working, or enjoying the company of my wife and our dog. I spend my days teaching at an elementary school, and after a tenure in India, it has been refreshing to get back to four seasons, although I'm still trying to convince my wife (AZ native) that there's value in winters.
-
Welcome David J!

"quote" I'm still trying to convince my wife (AZ native) that there's value in winters.....

Hello All,
My name is Bill and I just joined the forum today. I live in Rockland County and I've never been hunting.
Here's my deal.
I got into shooting action pistol and trap shooting over the past two years or so and in the past year I took the hunters ed class and I think I'm ready to give it a shot, no pun intended.
The idea for hunting started when a friend asked me if I wanted to take the class because a coworker of his said he would take the two of us out for the first time. Talking with another friend about his hunting he said he would take me along too.
So now it's a week before deer rifle season and I'm trying to be patient. Both guys haven't brought it up in a while and I'm starting to get worried that I won't get to go out this season.
Unfortunately, living in Rockland I can't hunt in my back yard which would make thing a lot easier with the many many deer that pass though every day.
I've got all my tags and my rifle is sighted in, anyone want to take me along?
I'll stop rambling now, thanks for all the great info on the forum.
Bill

Hello All,
My name is Bill and I just joined the forum today. I live in Rockland County and I've never been hunting......
Welcome to the forum and to hunting.
Let folks you know that you want to get out and you'll get something going; kinda close to opening day, but season is plenty long enough to get your feet wet.
I got going much the same way.......never did have the guy who said he would get me started help. :)
-
Welcome to all the new folks!

i joined this site about a year ago and just saw this thread.......very addictive and cool site to be on if your a sportsman.....never formally introduced myself so here i go.....my name is Augie Passante.....i am 27 years old from Highland and i have been hunting and fishing since i was a kid.....I work as a 911 dispatcher for ulster county and i have been a fireman in Highland for about 10 years now.....i grew up fishing for trout, bass and pike at my families lake house in the Adirondacks......something i still pursue every spring and summer (while patiently waiting for the start of duck season).......waterfowl hunting is my true passion......i spend countless hours and money in the off season prepping blinds, scouting, buying equipment and getting access to swamps and fields.......although the time and money is necessary, there are times that i wish it was not - because this has unfortunately turned me into somewhat of a numbers guy when it comes to ducks and geese......i use Benelli, black cloud and echo calls and nothing will ever change that.......always looking for people to hunt with.....to me duck and geese is a social hunt (one of the things i like about it) so anyone is welcome to come....... i am usually chasing birds 3-4 days a week (thanks to my overnight work schedule that my wife hates but i love)......i have tons of spots and i am very open about where i hunt.....as long as you come with me your welcome......its mostly all private property that people watch for me, i have exclusive access to, i am there several days a week even when not hunting and usually armed with a 12 gauge....never had a problem with spot takers........feel free to message me........
-

I met Ron and found out about this site at Skate Time at the 2A meeting last night. My main objective is to get America back from the liberal communist tyrants for the sake of my children's freedom and so that the sacrifices of our veterans was not for nothing.
I confess and apologize to our kids and veterans for sleeping for 40+yrs while our country deteriorated and for letting it fall under the control of commie libs. And I made a vow to our kids and our veterans that I will do everthing I possibly can everyday to redeem myself to them before I die.
Looking for people who want the same and am tired of people whining about the erosion of their rights without taking some kind of action to stop it. Also tired of hearing people say "from my cold dead hands" while they sit around and watch the government take their firearms from their nice warm hands; one finger at a time.

Hello everyone. Glenn Smits here. My wife and I moved up to Cragsmoor almost 30 years ago from North Jersey looking for a quiet place to raise our kids. All graduated Ellenville HS and are out and on their own. I love anything having to do with the outdoors from gardening and raising small livestock to hunting, fishing and canoeing.
I'm an avid shooter and am a member of the Walden Sportsmans Club. Love to canoe and fish our local streams and lakes during the warmer months and am just getting back in to archery and bow hunting. Found out about this site last weekend at the Accord rally and think a local site like this with like minded folks to share tips and ideas is just great! Looking forward to spending time here.

Welcome aboard Glenn.

Hello everyone! I am new to the site and very happy to be here. My name is Travis and I am from Louisiana and Texas. I took my monitor from being a long time tarpon fly angler. In my extended family nobody played or followed sports - we hunted and fished and so it is to this day. I no longer hunt, mostly due to logistics (I admit to loving bird hunting) but fishing is my sweet spot. It was all fresh water until we moved to Houston back in 1968 and we less than 60 minutes from being feet wet in Gulf. I moved to New York city about 15 years ago, prettyooooy about surf fishing since I had been doing it since I was 8 yrs old. Well, I got humbled real quick! Never seen anything like it. Since I moved to NYC I have been dying to get "upstate" and finally I have a small place in Warwick. I hope to take up all manner of fishing locally, especially hiking to "remote" waters and kyacking. I spend about 5 summers as a trout fishing guide near Mendoza, Argentina into the remote Andes, my main qualification according to the Argentines being I spoke English and did fall off the horses (much). I am looking to make new friends and fishing buddies and maybe get back into bird hunting.

Hi All, I'm Josh. I live in the Town of Poughkeepsie and like fishing the area as well as making trips down south to do some salt water fishing. I have 2 kids and we do a bit of kayak fishing in the area together. I also own a couple rifles for the range and am always interested in learning more in both areas. I work in the digital marketing industry and build facebook campaigns for large and small businesses.
As for fishing spots: There are a couple on the river that were good last year for bass. One south of Rhinecliff near a rail bridge span and the other north of Kingston Rhinecliff bridge on the west side of the river. That location was only accessible by kayak or boat.
Hunting: I have never gone hunting but I am interested in hog hunting. I was going to make a trip to Georgia to visit my brother to cul a heard near him.
Thanks,
Josh

Hi everyone, I'm Shane and live in eastern Dutchess County and am 31 years young. I am a avid sportsman like the rest of the members of this sight. I love water fowling upland and deer season. Funny story about deer season ill share quick. I got married about a yr and a 1/2 ago on October 1,2011 the wife wanted a fall wedding so at the time I thought it was a great date 2 weeks before archery So it will never interfere with my hunting i could go go on my honeymoon get back and have a week to get ready for deer season and don't you know 1 yr later they have to go and change opening day to land on my anniversary and I had to miss because we went away for 1st! Already told her I won't be missing it 2 yrs in a row! Thanks for the site I look forward to meeting many great people on here

Hi, I'm Bob, I live in Kingston and enjoy a number of outdoor activities. I do a lot of hiking, these days mostly in the Shawangunks, in the Catskills and the Adirondacks. I used to do quite a bit of rock climbing (mostly in the Gunks) but not so much any more. I hunt, mostly on the Mohonk Preserve and at the Morgan Hill Game Association and some in the Adirondacks both regular season and muzzleloading season for deer. I occasionally go out for squirrel and Turkey. I fish (but not often enough). I ski downhill and cross country. I'm also a Civl War reenactor going to about 3-4 events a year. That I am going to be cutting back on in the not too distant future. I'm about 3 times the age of the average soldier of the period. simply put I work in an office 5 days a week so on weekends, holidays and vacations I am usually outdoors. I am far from alone in doing that. I found out about this site when someone came to the April meeting of the Morgan Hill Game Association and talked about it. We were encourage to check it out, so I did. It was discussed at the May meeting and people seemed favorably impressed. It seems to be a good place for ideas and information on our favorite activities and on what those people in Washington and Albany are up to. I expect to be visiting the site and occasionally posting something
-
Welcome aboard Bob. We're glad you joined HVS. Lots of good people to share info with on here

Hello. Nice to find a local Hudson Valley website for like minded folks :). This site recommended by the President of the United Sportsmen of Rockland county...Stan.
OK...Here I go. Married Father of 3 sons(22,20&17) living in North Rockland. They all hunt and fish and have lifetime sportsman licenses for NYS( gifts from Dad as babies). I am a lifetime sportsman, Archery, Muzzleloading licensee for about 15 years now. I buy the trapper license annually. I do it all. Hunt, fish and trap. Most of my hunting/trapping is on family land in Sullivan county. But I do have a few spots here in Rockland that I hunt/trap from time to time. I have been a Electrician for 30 years currently working at Ground Zero in NYC. I have hunted in South Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania and my favorite place of all time...The Texas Hill country. I go hunting in Texas EVERY year for the last 7 years. Mainly for free range exotics. Last February I purchased 6.5 acres in the Hill Country for retirement. Texas is a Sportsmans paradise. Get there before you die.
This year I am starting a new endeavor. Hanging up the Mathews and picking up a vintage(1957) Ben Pearson recurve to hunt with. I am looking for more of a challenge.
Nice to meet all of you and good luck this fall.
Hunt safe!

Hello Everyone!
Just started getting back into hunting and fishing(I don't like fishing but my 6 y.o. son does so I do it for him). Actually As a kid I was only exposed to deer hunting with rifle. So I'm trying my hand at learning to shoot a bow, and learning how to fish all over again LOL.
So I destroyed my first set of arrows in tree roots and underbrush today. I've learned something, arrows are expensive and Shooting in my yard will cost me around $35.00 a day for a set of arrows.
Where are there local pro shops that can tune the bow. I'm in Walden, I don't really care for gander mountain as their staff doesn't say a word to me or even acknowledge me at the counter. But that's my little rant..
It's a PSE few years old. Seems to be strung well and no scratches or cracks that I can discern. I have it set up for my draw length. Now I just need a pro tune and have them go over it let me know what arrows I should be using, etc.
Thanks guys and gals

Hi everyone I am new as well just heard about this site tonight and decided to check it out. (so far so good). I have been hunting since I was twelve and I am 43 now. I started hunting with my dad and brother my brother and I still hunt together (our dad has passed on). I am a member of Walden sportsmen's club and I have been a hunter safety instructor for bow and gun for the last five years. I have two daughters that love to shoot but not hunt and I have a little guy who is five and he is chomping at the bit for this years gun season. (We be hunting from a blind) this will be his first time out ever I am just as excited as he is. I hope I can something valuable to this site and looking forward to learning from you guys and gals as much as I can.

My name is Ben. I live in the Catskill/Saugerties area(right at the base of north mountain). I hunt deer, bear, rabbit and birds(bow, rifle and shotgun). I joined this site to possibly connect with some like minded people outside my regular circle. Glad to see there are still so many people supporting outdoor lifestyles and hunting for more than trophies and bragging rights. I eat what I kill(excluding legally hunted pest animals) and enjoy being able to supplement my groceries with good meat that I know the origins of and process myself. Happy to be here

Been on the site for about a year now. Im 30 and just moved to Hyde Park last year. Married and have a 3 year old son. I did the majority of my growing up in Mahopac but lived in the city after I graduated college. Im a PE teacher and make the commute everyday…..its awesome (heavy sarcasm). I been deer hunting since i was a teenager. I really got into bird hunting this year after I bought a German Shorthaired Pointer. I went to a pheasant preserve a few years back and after that I promised myself when I bought a house I would get a hunting dog. What I like about the site is that everyone seems cool. I been on some other sites and when you ask a question, they respond to you like your an idiot. Plus its cool to get some local info, especially for a newbie to the area.

Welcome guys!
There is a lot of new members , please take a quick moment and introduce yourselves. .........

Hi Everyone! I'm a city girl who married a Hudson Valley Sportsman 20+ years ago. Never saw a wild turkey until my mid-20s!
Just a quick question for all you professional sportsmen out there: the rumor mill is rampant with sighting of a mountain lion in orange county over the weekend. Anybody know if they are really around? The deer are rampant here and we have coyote- even the occasional bear... but mountain lions??
Also, anybody know why and when NYS revoked crossbow use during gun season?
Thanks and good luck to everyone as gun season winds down- but black powder gears up!
Happy Holidays!!
Alex
-
Didnt here anything about the mountain lion in Orange co but as far as the xbow thing lets just say u could blame that on the NY Bowhunters organization..
-
Welcome aboard Alex. Don't listen to Ron. He doesn't know what he's talking about on here. There's definitely Mt. lions lurking around in these woods. Just search the forum and you'll see all the people who have witnessed one around here. ;D
-
I already sort of made an intro post on the small game section but I'll drop in here too (newbies gotta follow the rules right?)
I moved to White Plains 2 years ago when I got married. Haven't done any hunting in the Hudson Valley but wouldn't be opposed to connecting with someone and trading trips. I duck hunt and fish on the south shore of LI (Jones Inlet) where I grew up.
Our duck hunting down there is on the open bay on salt marshes. Lots of Brant, Bufflehead, and Bluebills, a fair amount of Blacks and Mallards. We also see hooded mergansers and have even seen the occasional goldeneye and norther shovler. On good weather days we can head to the inlet for old squaw and scouters.
On the fishing front we do a lot of Striped Bass and Shark fishing. Also jump on the fluke, sea bass and tuna when the bite's on.
I've joined the board hoping to learn more about hunting opportunities in Westchester- none of my family or friends up here are sportsmen, go figure!
-Chris

Hi
Been living in NY my whole life, started in Latham with stints of living in Canadaigua, Armonk, Yorktown,Mt.Kisco, Bedford and now finally in Poughquag(Beekman, Dutchess cty) I've been into the outdoors since I was knee high to a coke bottle, I have a man cave full of stuff that i try to use on a regular basis. As long as my wife and kids don't interfere, I'm out hunting or fishing. Gave up golf so I could fish more....plus save a lot of $$$.

Now that I'm a full member I should introduce myself (better late than never) I'm John and I have lived in Ulster since 1985. Prior College Station, Tx, Cobleskill, NY, Potsdam, NY. My wife and I have 2 kids that are in college. I like to hunt, fish, trap, and farm. I make my living as a CCA (certified crop advisor) on farms in the lower hudson valley and we also have a fruit farm here in Cherrytown. Like it or not I call it like I see it and will let you know where I stand with being PC low on my list. Life member NRA, RVR&G 27 yrs.
-
Welcome aboard!!!
*aside- Do you think NY deer hunting is much worse than Texas???
I was stationed at Fort Sam Houston for almost 2 years, and I say: 'NO'.... New York deer hunting is pretty dang good... Good habitat, good numbers, and plenty of decent bucks.... (antler restrictions ARE helping)
-And from my LIMITED experience, the deer hunting around San Antonio was pretty lame... (tiny deer) ;)
Thanks in advance (:

In answer to your ? Bob--deer hunting in Tx is a rich mans game and unless you can afford a lease or a canned hunt or are in the service(hunts on base) access to land is almost impossible. Knocking on doors--fat chance. Small amounts of access on state and federal vs. lots of state land here in NY. I was lucky that one of my housemates at Texas A&M had 1000's of acres of family land in the Brazos bottoms. My major may have been horticulture, but my minors were hunting and fishing with weekends spent chasing after waterfowl, deer, catfish and whatever else a bunch of poor students could eat. N of San A.is the hill country-- I would hunt that for deer any chance I could. As far as walkabouts post--this is the 1st site that I've ever been a member of and it's not only entertaining but useful. What I would call 'good bull!' to the sportsman helping sportsman here in the area and yes it's about time.

Hi Guys, another Hudson Valley Sportsman here :-) Just saying hello, friend of mine told me about this site so I came to check it out. I'm in Wingdale/Dover area hunting for the last 5-6 years, looking for buddies with the same interest and of course more hunting spots :-) Been doing deer, Turkey and some small game in all seasons (bow, xbow, gun, MZ), basically trying to get out there as much as I can can and as much as work and wife allows :-)

Hi All. User name RamboSmurf AKA Dave M., Live in Ulster Park for entire life. Retired NYSDOCS Sergeant and Police Firearms/Chemical Agents Instructor.....Short guy with guns, hence the RamboSmurf from co-workers.
Avid Bass fisherman for 40Yrs, hunter on occasions. Years ago I used to Striper fish in Creek only and would rather go bass fishing instead. 3 yrs ago I started the striper thing on the river. Doing so-so, have caught average of 5-6 per year, biggest about 30lbs. Catch and release.
Wasn't all that much fun fishing out of a bass boat for them. Changed gears and own a 1997 Monark Pro 1700 now.
Good luck to all this year and any info I can give, I will and appreciate the same......bait casting for bass to bait runners and waiting.
I hate EELS

Here is the best type of eel . . . one in the claws of a bald eagle . . the eagle snatched it out of the river right near my boat where I cut its head off (makes it asier and less messy to remove frome the hook) Eagles have to eat too you know.
Welcome aboard! Good luck out there!

Hello everyone. Sorry for the slow introduction (I have been stalking the forum for several months). My name is Alex K. I live in Brooklyn, but have a place on my family's farm in Stanfordville in Dutchess County. I'm 35 yrs old and just welcomed my first child, a boy, into the world on July 1st. Spent most of my life fly fishing and upland shooting, but have recently gotten into bowhunting. Dinsdale recommended that I join the forum. I would like to get the property under QDM and would appreciate any direction, advice, help, etc. Thanks.
-
Welcome Trout and congratulations on the new baby. Did you buy him his lifetime license yet?
-
Haven't yet, but it's on the top of the list. My father gave me my lifetime license when I turned 10 or 11... cannot remember exactly now, but it has paid for itself many times over. Heck of a deal but still is not inexpensive.

Welcome TroutLadder!

Welcome to HVS TroutLadder and congrats on the new addition to the family.. Our HVS biologist Dick Henry HVS member DHenry is the president of the hudson Valley QDM. You can reach him by sending him a personal msg or at this email rjhenr@aol.com.. Good luck.

Hello all, I've lived in the area (Sullivan County) for about two years and decided it's time to sign up for the HVS. Before moving to NY, I lived in Washington State, where I developed a fierce addiction to elk hunting that is now supplemented by bear hunting, mostly in the larger wilderness areas in the Catskills. I've shot longbow for the past seven years or so, but this year I've decided to give compound a try in the hopes of actually filling the freezer. Frequent forager of mushrooms, occasional fisherman.
-
Welcome Travis thanks for joining. Good luck with taking a bear here in the catskills.
-
Welcom and post often these guys are getting boring lol and the shrooms are great around here
-
Welcome to the site! There is excellent bear hunting here. Find the food find the Bears.

Welcome John! . . . . even Super Hero members of this site are learning all the time . . . .that's what it's all about . . . do you fish for Stripers each Spring?

Welcome aboard

Thanks for the warm welcome. To flesh out my intro, after 30+ years not fishing, I started taking kids (now 11 and 13) to DEC free events a few years back, got my license, bought worms to take them to local ponds, and over time found myself unexpectedly but happily obsessed if not skilled (dovetailing with son's Scouts hikes and campouts and daughter's willingness to fish too). I picked up a used canoe, hit some waters in Dutchess/Putnam, looking to get out a lot up/down the Taconic plus Harriman to Ulster this year. Thus far I've targeted bass, talk with coworkers who fly fish trout (sounds fun), but have not yet tried for stripers. I’m admittedly very much newbie-level, far better at casting than at catching! I won't be much of a contributor of successful trips or insights to others, but after a year of regularly visiting HVS glad to finally register.
-
Spending time with your kids fishing is good bull 123, welcome to HVS.

Joined here last week. Little bit about myself - I'm 30, an Architectural Drafter, lived in the Pine Bush area my entire life. Started fishing when I was 4 or 5, I have a mess of Ice Fishing trophies from 2001 - 2005ish from the Sullivan County area. Haven't ice fished in probably 10 years though. I have hunted before, but my interest in it has dropped off the past few years. I didn't go at all this past year.
Didn't fish at all, period for a solid 7 years, but hit it real hard again last year after I bought a kayak and decided my summer was going to be nothing but fishing. Last summer I fished Loch Sheldrake, Morningside Lake, Bashakill, and Neversink Reservoir in Sullivan County. Wallkill River, Chodikee Lake, and Tillson Lake in Ulster County. Also took a trip to Lake George for a weekend and caught my biggest of the year there (picture below). I have some new prospects picked out for this year to check out - pretty excited about that.
Main targets last year were Largemouth, Smallmouth, Chain Pickerel, and Catfish. I want to mess around more with trout and carp this year though.

Yeah I caught 4 really nice smallies in one trip there last year. I might check out the creek in Kingston, thanks for the tip - never caught a striper before. Any tips/tricks/hints?

Hello everyone, brand new to the site. I'm Courtney and I've always been an outdoorsy kind of girl. Used to go fishing with my Dad up at the Res when I was younger, hoping to again soon. I've recently caught the addictive hobby of metal detecting, hoping some of you might have some areas I may be able to go legally? Still doing research on where I can and can't. Hope everyone is enjoying the gorgeous day!

Hi,
My name is Ziffy and I am a bit shy, so I joined HVS to try and come out of my shell . . .
I like to use a snafu rig for Blackfishing . . . the season for which opens on Oct. 10th in CT. and Oct. 11th in N.Y.
3 fish per angler per day in both states and they have to be 16" or better
YeeeHaaawwww!!!!! . . I took the whole week off!
-
Of course I made a fresh batch of Limoncello for the occasion . . . . it's getting a little cool on the water!

Hi there,
I'm a film student who's making a short film about deer hunting. I grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and hunted with my dad and uncles for many years, but now that I'm here in New York (Brooklyn), I find that I don't have a lot of connections to the world of hunters and hunting.
So... I'm hoping that someone here can help me with a couple questions. Most importantly, I'm looking for a location to shoot the film. Our shoot dates are Nov 10 and 11, which I believe is the week before rifle season (I wanted the woods to look right, but to not disturb hunters if at all possible.)
The ideal location would have a tree-covered road or two that I could have my character drive in on, but the most important feature of the location is a ground blind (ideally homemade and old -- my uncle's had an old recliner in it, would love something with that feel) with shooting lanes already cut and a bait pile.
Also, ideally this would be private land so that I can be certain I'm not disturbing any non-rifle hunters who might be in the woods that weekend.
Wondering if anyone has any ideas about land owners or land between NYC and Hudson (at the furthest) that would be a good fit?
Thanks!
S

welcome to hvs.. you could just hit add attachment and choose a photo but if its to large it wont work.. 500kb or smaller otherwise you would need to use a third party to get the codes.. Read this link..http://www.hudsonvalleysportsman.com/index.php/topic,108.0.html

Hey - I'm a transplant from Ohio but have lived in Ulster County for over 30 years - primarily a fisherman - Engineer at Ashokan Reservoir for the last 27 years, all the other Reservoirs are in my Area of Responsibility too. I like fishing on the Hudson River too and wanted to join the site for tips on Striper fishing and general knowledge of what's going on on the River in April & May. I'm just getting used to using the site, so I don't know how to post photos and stuff yet, but will try to stay involved.

welcome jay, best of luck n the water this season

Welcome to HVS thanks for joining.

Welcome aboard! Your best bet for tips on Hudson River fishing is to book a charter with one of the guys. Tipping Scales, Fish Wistle, Tropy Class are the best bait guys, Reel Addicted for trolling action. Reel Addicted, Tipping Scales and Fish Wistle are out of Rondout Creek, Trophy Class is further south. You'll gain a lot of knowledge and find out where to go and what works in a short trip. All 4 of those operations are top notch and will work their tails off helping you learn.

Thanks for the Striper Charter tips...I've been at it quite awhile, and usually fish live bait, but have been trying trolling last year. I fish out of the Esopus Cr. in Saugerties. I jig up a barrel full of herring, and then troll my way to my spot, and then live bait fish. I've found I catch bigger fish on live bait...but we'll see how I can do better with all of your tips - think about it, we only have about 3-1/2 months to go until the stripers get here!

What’s up everyone.
I’m back lol
I was on this site for several years, several years ago. My name is jay and originally from kingston. I have since moved to upstate NY where Lake Ontario and Oneida lake have most of my attention.
I also acquired a place in Otsego county to hunt so last year we killed some deer and turkey in the spring.
Hope everyone is doing well still, catch up those stripers boys. I miss fishing those jokers

Welcome back Jay!

Welcome back Jay. Hope all is well

Thanks guys. Doing well up here in the north woods.

I'm originally from Troy NY and currently live in Brooklyn NY, but I feel most at home in the rolling green hills of Upstate NY. I'm a trout addict. Primarily a wade fisherman on the streams in and around the Catskills but also get into some trolling on the lakes and ponds of the Adirondacks. The quest for more knowledge brought me to this site, I've learned alot without being a member so now it's time to come on board.

Hi, my name is John. I moved up into the Olivebridge area (35 minutes from Kingston ...20 minutes from Woodstock).
I'm primarily interested in fishing. I put a rowboat on the Ashokan reservoir ... two weeks later ... they drained the
area my boat was in and there was no way I could drag my boat the 70' to what water was left.
Looking for local areas (not private) with good fishing ... (and access) .. thanks in advance.
-
Welcome John. I suggest you put some wheels on your Ashokan boat, the water levels vary from time to time so it’s nice to be able to roll the boat. All my reservoir boats have wheels for ease of use.

Onteora lake on 28 is close

Welcome John . I use to live in olive bridge many years ago. What a great place to live. I still regret selling the property that i planned on building my home on . Its a bit of a drive but move the boat to the rondout reservoir the water levels dont fluctuate as much as the ashokan and the fishing is pretty darn good. Dont forget about the hudson come spring for striper fishing. If you never fished for stripers we have several charter boat captains who sponsor this website on the front page to choose from..Good luck.

Welcome aboard John!

Hi guys, I am an avid fisherman, used to do all water and species, kind of fell into just doing freshwater bass fishing. Joined because I like to see what locals are up to. Cool site, thanks to whoever takes the time and pays the money to keep it going.
