Had 4 does come in before dark and had deer out of sight that I could hear munching away on acorns.  Definitely bumper mast crop by me this year.

Not in the stand this morning, but this was last nights adventure.
Got in my stand 5,ish.  Sat for 10 minutes or so, and wasn't really prepared, release not on, hat off in hand & coverall top unzipped, bow hanging on hook. It was a little warm. Looked behind me and to my surprise a 5 or 6 point snuck up and was eating acorns, behind me, approx 20 yards or so. Got situated without him noticing any movement. Figured I try get some phone video & pictures, since no shot yet. Then I notice he started staring at something intensely behind him, for some time he stared. Finally I saw legs moving through the brush, and they were black and fuzzy.  Bear, I said to myself. Usually don't see them where I bow hunt, in the low lands. Now, not going to shoot the deer, I focus on the bear, but he is directly behind me. After he mozzied around for sometime, must have got to close to the buck, the buck runs right under and past my stand, stops broadside at 15 yards, but is still focused on the bear, looking towards me but through me, Ok... I will try to get more video of him cause I not going to shoot. He then runs off, as I can hear the bear getting closer behind me. Phone down now I get bow ready, trying to look at the corner of my eyes I see him, coming directly from behind but right towards my stand. So now I pick phone up again because he is right under me and cant shoot, I try get some good video of him, he stops at the base of my ladder, turns looks up and then puts his front feet on my ladder, I think he's coming up to sit with me! (Now this is a nice bear big wide head) He decides better to just sit on his butt and look up at me. Now, I think I'm still videoing him. He then realizes sitting there may be a bad idea as he starts sniffing the air. He takes off a on a full run,
& stops.. I put phone down, and stand with bow ready, but he is now 40 yards and no shot. Game over, walks up the hill and gone. Well at least I got cool video footage!   Nope!!!   It never recorded, I was so focused on him, didn't realize it wasn't recording!!
Ohhh well!!!.... It will be a good memory!   Sorry... no bear footage!

Picture of the buck but its kinda fuzzy.

I got in the woods yesterday around 445 with the intention of still hunting and scouting a piece of the public property I haven’t stepped in yet. I jumped a small deer then decided to sit for a bit. 2 more smaller deer, one being a small spike walked out. Then a few minutes later, a buck, not sure of size, walked out about 75 yards maybe less away. When I got up to leave after shooting light, I turn around and there was a bear about 100 yards away looking right at me. So I hollered and he slowly worked off down the hill. Exciting first day when I wasn’t expecting much. Going back to the area today to see if I can sit closer on the ground to the path the buck and other deer trusted since they all walked out of the same area.

Last nights report,

Sat from 4:30pm on.... had only some squirrels in a hustle gathering acorns until about 5:50 when I heard a deer coming up from the lower thicket taking it's time making it my way. Just as it gets near I hear a second deer below walking then make a scrape, first deer clears brush walking past a mock scape I made earlier today and is a mature doe I know and has no fawns this year. I only used buck rut urine and I'm wondering if this is what triggered this buck to check does and make the scrape,  they came straight downwind of it. 2nd deer still unseen works slowly up hill and I get a glimpse of horn but I think it's a small buck and relax still in thick stuff at 20y. Doe walks off thru my shooting lane buck still hidden,  all of a sudden he comes clear and I'm full draw immediately then he quick steps it towards doe at 15 y I bleat he paused and I release..... in that last few seconds of him clearing into view I was at draw and shooting knowing it was a good buck it's crazy how fast it happened. Buck runs off and I heard it stumble in distance but I decided I wanted to go back to house and get my son to help track and drag.  Now by time I get my son it's dark but tracking was easy and we found him in 75 yards, buck was definitely better than i thought as i only had an instant to judge from him coming into view to shot was only a few yards.

After my long winded story here is my summary,  the October lull is over and bucks have entered the Pre-Rut seek and checking doe groups phase. It's on boys!

Sat out this morning from 6 until 1045 when it started to drizzle. And truthfully, I was under dressed and starting to get cold. One small six snuck in behind me at 35 yards at 8:30, but otherwise no movement.

I cannot complain, the two times that I've sat in this stand I've seen bucks. Have to connect sometime.....

I am considering taking off of work friday.  Going to be much cooler than the day before and should quit raining overnight.  Only kicker is 10-20mph winds with higher gust. how do you guys fair in the wind normally? Hard to tell if that foretasted wind will slow movement.  Worth the PTO day?  Hoping bucks will be on the move

I'm out looking for a bear and a doe and I saw 4 different bucks today between 2 different spots. The 2 that I saw this morning were putting on a good show, rubbing trees, grunting and pushing some does. Then after putting a few miles on , I sat in a stand for the evening and saw 2 more bucks, this 6 came directly under my tree, lol. Rut is starting to heat up.

hey guys, anybody know a tracking dog?  I made what I thought was a good shot on a buck.  He donkey kicked and I let him rest for an hour.  Blood started slow but eventually got heavy and was no problem following. Bright red with air bubbles.  400-450yds later blood trickled and became harder to follow.  We lost him in a pine tree thicket.  Could have sworn I smelled him at one point but eventually decided to back out.  I have faith he is dead but a tracking dog would be ideal.  We just could not find arrow while we were giving the buck time.  If anybody knows a pup, thank you in advance!

This is live from my living room because I can no longer hunt due to back and shoulder issues. I'm sitting here with a tear in my eye as I watch buck after buck cruising through the woods behind my house, no chasing, just bucks cruising. If I was still able to climb and draw a bow I'd be gutting a 130+" 8pt. right now. :'(  Get out there!

Thanks, but it's not gonna happen, I'm only gonna get worse, especially the back. I suppose if I really get the urge I could get spots where I could use a crossbow and hunt on the ground. At least I can still fish, my reservoir boats are all right on waters edge, and fishing I can't get stuck 20' up a tree with back spasms!
