When it made the first run I figured carp but after 5 minutes it just sat on the bottom basically for at least an hour in 10 feet of water never saw it until just before I landed it I tried many times to get it up as hard as I dare pull in 6 pound test I figured channel cat until last few minutes when it came up

I give you credit for waiting that fish out.  I'll stick with it as long as it keeps moving, but when nothing is happening, I lose patience.
Nice fish and a cool story too.

When I was a kid I was fishing for sunnies off the dam at Grassy Sprain reservoir in Yonkers. I hooked some massive beast on an ultralight setup with 4lb test, and a 1/32oz marabou jig. I fought it for over an hour before it circled the building just off the dam and broke me off. It was likely a massive carp. They catch guys off guard sometimes.
