I’ve only heard of people fishing 3-4 hours north of us on smaller bodies of water. Oneida froze last night but Monday might mess that up

I saw them on sturgeon today, absolutely crazy. The one guy was like 10 ft away from the open water. So stupid in my opinion.  Not worth it

On Sunday, in about a 15 minute period, I watched a number of hunters working a frozen lake in Athens... From the picture window overlooking the lake I had been watching a murder of crows for a while when a bald eagle showed up to sit in a dead tree. It sat there for a few minutes and then moved on. A few minutes later a red tailed hawk flew along the edge of the lake... Then a blue heron flew across the inlet and landed along the edge. It was standing there for about 5 minutes when a red fox crossed the inlet not 50 feet from the heron. We capture a fox on camera regularly as it passes under the lake side deck. I didn't see any quarry taken that day but like my days afield I enjoyed the hunt. Also, compared to being in NYC on Friday, this cemented my choice of where to live.

9" at North South Lake. Chased flags all day, 19 small chain pickerel and three largemouth.

Conditions have changed there... DEC Forest Ranger report sent out on the 28th reported:

Town of Hunter
Greene County
Flat Ice Rescue: On Jan. 26 at 11:08 a.m., Central Office Dispatch received a call from Greene County 911 reporting two ice fishermen who had broken through the ice while riding a snowmobile across North South Lake. The men were towing two ice fishing sleds full of fishing gear from the South Lake spillway to a fishing spot on North Lake when the snowmobile fell through the thinner ice. Both men went into the water, but were able to self-rescue, crawling approximately 50 feet on the ice to shore. A nearby ice fisherman assisted the two men back to shore and called 911. Forest Rangers Hannah O'Connor, Steven Jackson, Robert Dawson, and Jeffrey Breigle, as well as Tannersville Rescue Squad and Hunter Ambulance, responded to the scene and assisted the fishermen out of the woods. The 49-year-old man from High Falls and the 61-year-old man from Washingtonville were evaluated by Hunter Ambulance and refused further medical treatment. Forest Rangers began to evaluate the scene to develop a plan to extract the snowmobile and ice fishing equipment from the remote section of the lake. A local vehicle recovery service was hired by the fishermen to get the snowmobile out of the water. A Forest Ranger using a flat ice rescue suit assisted the fishermen in retrieving and returning their personal belongings, which were scattered around the broken ice and the snowmobile. DEC reminds New Yorkers to visit the DEC website for important information about ice safety.

There is little ice in the Athens area... small coves only while the main part of the lakes all appear to be open water.

Found some local ice last few days on a shallow pond, 9 chain picks and a ccat, fun to chase some flags but it's iffy now, wouldn't push it until next cool down, if you do go out don't go without a spud.

I asked my son where he wanted to go on his birthday , and he said ice fishing in the Adirondacks.
The last few weekends didn't work out due, so we made it up there yesterday and today.
His goal was to catch his first pike and laker through the ice.  We started at Minerva Lake on Sunday.
Caught 3 pike and 1 bass.  Missed a few others .
Today we fished Schroon Lake and it was pretty slow. But we did end up with 2 lakers and one was a decent size.

Caught this little guy casting yesterday lol
