Looking to see what is the right interpretation of the NY DEC crossbow rules
. I understand the muzzleloader piece which allows u to use the crossbow late season
. this is from the NY DEC website:
"Crossbows may be used to take deer during:
◦early and late muzzleloader season in the Northern Zone and late muzzleloader season in the Southern Zone using Bow/Muzz tags, DMPs, DMAP tags, or an unfilled Regular Big Game tag (late season only);"
the part that confuses me is the "unfilled Regular Big Game tag"
so u can use it for bear
so u then can use an unfilled regular season buck tag as well?
always thought u can only use the regular season buck during regular season
. reading this makes me scratch my head
..
Thoughts? thxs

Regular season buck tag can be used in late season this goes back to before doe tags were available I believe when you only had that tag to use
-
does that mean its used as a doe tag? not a buck tag?
-
You can use the regular season tag either buck or doe in the late season as long as you have your late season privileges (bow or muzzle-loader). Antler restrictions still apply. For antlerless deer your zone must allow antlerless deer to be harvested. Hope this helps.

it does help
thxs for the info
. all these years I never thought unfilled regular buck tag can be used late season

I didn't know that either! As long as you guys are sure about that, I thank you for the info.

This is from the NYS hunting and trapping guide to laws & regulations page 26. Sorry for the blurry photo. You can go online if you don't have a hard copy of the rules to confirm for yourself.
