Sad to report that I hve not recovered the deer... yet? We ended tracking him. Along a ridge for about 600yds without him bedding up, tracked from 630-10am. We bumped him around 930 and he ran about 60yds then up a small ridge where we lost sight of him, deer didn’t look 100% but he didn’t look like he was about to die. We stopped at that point. That was 24hrs from shot. His wound was on opposite side that we saw this morning so couldn’t see what it looked like but yesterday he def had something hanging out. Not sure what to do from here.

I would say pick up the track again tomorrow, pushing  him won’t help.

That stinks, the shallow penetration had me worried. He's obviously not gonna die from blood loss at this point, so your only hope is that you cut up some intestines and he dies from the bacteria released into his gut. I'd wait a bare minimum of 24 hours from here, if not 48. Sorry bro, it's not a good feeling, we've all been there.

It’s terrible. Been a rough bow season w my target buck for past 6, yes 6, years gets shot by some yahoo after I was closing in on him. As far as this deer goes, he had some guts hanging out yesterday through entry hole but he didn’t look to hurt this am. Where do I start in 48hrs though? We didn’t find any blood where he ran bc we didn’t know EXACTLY the route he took.

Gotta give him more time.  Tomorrow morning he should be dead, make arrangements for deer search for tomorrow. It is impossible for him to  survive with guts hanging out.  It's a fatal wound,  he will die , but unfortunately sometimes it takes a while.  Believe it or not there's a difference in  gut shots, stomach shots, and intestine shot,  intestine shots take longer to expire.  Deer are tough, especially if they are being pursued.  See if you can get a deer search dog for tomorrow.  He should be recoverable.  Keep the faith and be patient.

He has to be burning up and seeking water to cool down..... Give him till tomorrow then hit any water holes or swamps
