Can't believe it's been 5 years since I renewed my pistol permit (can't believe it had to be renewed in the first place) - anyway, does anyone know if the State Police still looking for renewals? There are 23 States that do not require a permit, which is how it should be. Why do I need a permit for something I can do by right?
-
Yes , NYS police are still looking for recertification....
Mine is due December of this year ...
I delivered my paper work today , at the pistol permit bureau ,to add a new gun on my permit
This - NYS resertification status was checked ...
I was told it could take from 2weeks to 8 weeks to get my purchase coupon ...
I think they do this on purpose, to discourage people from buying hand guns ..
It's not the pistol permit people , it's the court system/ and judge who gets your paperwork..
Then I have to pass a nics check , and pay a ffl fee , before I can have my gun ..
Ridiculous.....I wonder if other states are the same BS
I guess we are lucky to carry .... other states you can not carry .. New Jersey I think is one them .
-
Just a ? Are they gonna mail us something when we have to renew or is it on ourselves to remember
-
NYS police website says it is your responsibility to resertify , whether your notified or not
-
Mine is due December of this year, but the site will not let me renew now. I guess it has to be closer to the due date? Unless it went through and is just pending. I renewed early last time, because I was afraid of forgetting about it. Very poor, unnecessary system. I'm glad you guys bring it up on here, because thats's the only time I think about it.

I just recertified last month, took about 10 mins online (including looking for the link). I was due in June but did not want to forget. I also just added another hand gun to my permit in Sullivan County. They are still all mail in paperwork so I feared I would be at their mercy but I received my amended license within 10 days. Sullivan County still good for that

You can check your renewal date, and renew if necessary, at this web site:

Still waiting for my purchase coupon to come back from judge ...
Been 6 weeks now ... family court judge has my paperwork..
Anyone know a legit reason why it takes so long ?
I tried to call judge ... well they don't let you talk directly to judge ..
So , I talked to her secretary.. her response was " it will get done "
And basically hung up on me ...nasty..
-
Bob, the judges are busy theses days seing the same dirtbags everyday in the courtroom because of bail reform. there more important to get back on the street then u getting a new pistol. ;D
-
Evidently so Ron ...
I hope I get a chance to vote for this judge ---NOT---- 😡

They put me through the wringer a few years ago, and when I went to stand in front of the judge, it became evident that her assistant was the real problem…..nasty lady!!! But the Judge, she was very pleasant, unbelievable!!!

Well , after I got done with my little rant ....
pistol permit bureau calls and says purchase coupon came back ...
I went right in and picked it up , then proceeded to ffl and got my pistol ..
6-7 weeks ...
From talking with my dealer , he says that they have people waiting 2 months ..
And the problem is typically not the judge , it's the secretary or clerk that let's them pile up ,
Before presenting them to the judge for signature.
I do believe this is probably why there is such a delay...
.

Sorry to say but who’s the boss in that situation 💩💩 rolls down hill just guessing away out to still get votes
-

I'm convinced NYS makes the process to get a handgun permit onerous on purpose to discourage people from going through the process. I often wonder how many people just say screw it an acquire a hand gun illegally. I've lived in other states where you get a permit in about two weeks after application to the state police (Indiana) or local sheriff (PA). When I lived in Illinois they didn't allow concealed carry, now they do. BTW none of those other states keep track of every handgun you own nor do you need a purchase coupon for each one.

The deadline for many recertifications is coming up quick... 8/31/2023. Probably worth checking your status!
https://firearms.troopers.ny.gov/pprecert/welcome.faces
There is a link for checking your recertification status that contains a recert date.
-
thank you for the heads up! Was needed for my wife
-
Reminder to check your recertification! I just ran into somebody who didn’t realize most people are expiring 8/31 if you haven’t recert recently
-
Thank you.
