I spend 90% of my time fishing Albany area however I run down to Kingston at the start of every season. Seems like every year I hear Tales of herring in round out Creek and always make a run up the creek I make my way all the way up to West Kingston recycling in most years have difficulties locating any herring. Any recommendations do I need to go higher up round out Creek or just forfeit round out altogether? Not looking to spot burn just need a general idea if I need to keep going further up the Creek.

Yes go all the way up to the falls , but beware of rocks ...
Anywhere past the bridge is usually good when they are running strong , if your jigging ..
Use caution , shallow water and lots of rocks

. . . Go past the Eddyville bridge and look for the captain of Tippin’ Scales Fishing Charter (Pat) . . .
. . . he’s a herring magnet!!! ;) ;)

. . . . or save yourself alot of time and stop by his bait shop @ Rondout Yacht Basin and get fishing waayyy earlier! :) . . . just sayin’!

Underneath the eddyville bridge u will see a little stream jig next to that I've cought them there my whole life. bring a really long jigging rod so u can reach some deeper water.

Thanks again guys for the info I made my way up to the falls and even managed to put a few herring in the live well. Didn't manage any stripers but I did see two guys on Shore taking two fish to the trucks they appear to be about the 25 in class. I even got to meet a guy that claims to be the infamous Ziffy at the boat launch when I was pulling out.
As expected very cool dude!

There you go ... now you know what to do ...it will get better as the water warms up ..

When you guys go in the creek for Herring how do you catch them? I thought you weren't allowed to scap net so I'm not sure how to catch them, are you jigging them? Im a shore fishermen so i wont be able to go to the middle an jig

Imposters are easily ID'ed-- they will not have homemade beef jerky in their possession and will get confused when you ask them to tell you the 18 steps to properly pickle a herring!

Yes Camicwrath, you must use a sibiki rig and jig for herring in the creeks ( no nets) . . . and there is also a reg. that you can only have 5 hooks per line . . . so you must cut a hook off of those sibikis sold with 6 hooks! . . . it’s almost impossible to jig from shore unfortunately. . .
. . . the herring returned to Kingston today on the rising tide . . . . I scored scapping @ high tide this afternoon until the head of my scap net broke. . . >:( >:( >:(
Now we might get snow tonight!
