Bear attack in Westchester
« on: August 23, 2023, 07:36:42 PM »
A 7 year old kid was attacked by a bear in Armonk, a couple miles from my house. Non life threatening injuries thankfully. The bear then went at cops and was killed. I've been here almost 30 years, and it seems like there have been more bear sightings in the last three years than there were in the previous 27.

I was reading about that. I wonder what caused it to be aggressive? They said it tested negative for rabies

With it being negative for rabies, and it being a male so no cubs involved, it's even weirder. I think maybe "attack" is too strong a word here, if it was an attack, that kid would be dead. Strange behavior for sure.

Wouldn't be surprised people were feeding it. Young male, likely kicked out by mom this spring.

The bear population increases every year and they definitely go to the food for sure and a lack of education on the public’s part this is only going to get worse
