Title: Early Season Doe
Post by: LouieM on October 10, 2022, 08:59:42 AM
Got it done Thursday 10/6 late morning on a nice doe. It was a public land hot spot my brother found the last week of early bear season. The pockets of dropping acorns seem to be scattered around and this oak spot the ground was pounded. Not to mention deer each time we’ve been back in there. He set up his sticks and mine in two different spots.

I sat it first last Monday in my saddle and saw a nice 8 point feeding 60yds away before I had my bow pulled up. He worked down and out of sight. I saw a doe group move in a similar fashion so the next afternoon on lunch break I moved my sticks 30 yds closer to where I could have got an arrow off at any of the deer I saw. Sat it Wednesday evening and only had the fawns move thru. I had a great feeling Thursday so took pto and sat sunrise and at 9:50a this doe came to 10 yds to feed acorns and I waited for a good shot and got a pass thru and she expired in sight. Good thing too because it was already in the mid 60s and I had to drag her .5 miles up hill solo. It was a beautiful morning and that along with dreams of the buck coming thru late to bed kept me in the stand longer than most October mornings.

This one was rewarding because I’ve killed a few deer the last few years but with the bow have been from the ground during the rut and my saddle deer have all been with the gun until this point. I’m trying to learn to be more patient and be confident enough to pick a spot and sit it longer with the bow and it paid off for the freezer this time.  I also wanted to mention getting a pass thru because I went and got a new arrow build from Dawn to Dusk Archery in Walden with a heavier weight, high foc arrow and fixed broadhead. This type of set up is the trend right now and I can see why.  Last two years I had arrowed two bucks without pass-thru with mechanical heads and I was ready to try something new and lessen the distance of tracking blood.  Can’t recommend his service enough.

congrats on the doe ..... glad u had a positive experience with DAWN TO DUSK ... unfortunately i did not when he convinced me to buy a SCORPYD crossbow for $1500 and the shooting string broke twice on me and both he and scorpyd blamed me saying I had a partial dryfire because it wasn't loaded right .... well i give them that ... its almost impossible to draw the string back ... but neither offered to help me and fix it and it hangs in my basement unused for a 3rd season ..... both had no problem taking my money and keeping it ....

I’m sorry to hear you had that experience. It is a small shop out of his house so I could imagine that amount of money could change things.
