Well this fella won’t be destroying 1,000’s of dollars with of my 3-d targets anymore. Nice male about 150-170lbs. He has a big head and 4” pads for a bear that only weighs that much. Old trusty predator rifle got notched for the biggest predator. You don’t need big magnums to hunt bears. .223 with a 50grn ballistic tip dropped it in its tracks.

Gut shot, my .223 is I guess what you would call my “safe queen” of my guns. It just points and shoots like nobodies business. And a bullet behind the ear from any center fire rifle is going to drop a black bear. Now granted in no way would I take a frontal or shoulder shot with it. Allot of people think of bears being hard to kill tough animals. They are extremely strong but the only thing tough on them is their front shoulders. Their hide and ribs are thinner than a whitetail deer and their lungs are allot smaller too so once you put an arrow or bullet through their chest their done in about 30 sec (assuming you hit the lungs/heart).

Thanks everyone. I hope you all have luck for the rest of the early season.

Razor congrats on a great bear. I agree completely about shot placement . I noticed the high turrets in the picture and figured it had to be a special rifle to you. I have a couple that are my go to rifles and they just feel right. Thanks for sharing the story. (beers)
