Wait until you see what it does to a fox or coyote lol.  They are nasty little things....last fox i shot had a softball size exit.

yeah it's a pretty awesome round. super fast but wind at longer range is its downfall. i have a 93 w/ a bull barrel. Super accurate and fun to shoot. Never shot anything passed 100 yards.

Yeah , I figured that little 17-20 gr. Bullet , would be pushed around in the wind pretty easy ..
I imagine at 50 yards it shouldn't matter much ..

My dad bought a .17HMR from Cabelas in Hamburg when they first opened years ago.  Came as a kit with a scope and mounts, and he bought some ammo.  It was also a heavy barrel, and I think it was $200.  He asked me to set it up for him, so I mounted the scope, boresighted it, and took it to the range for some actual shooting.  That rifle had a decent trigger, and shot dime size groups at 50 yards with little effort, but as others also mentioned, the wind is hell on those little bullets.  I was looking at 3 inches at 100, and that was in conditions that were not really all that breezy.
I liked it, good luck with yours!

I'm liking the 17 hmr , seems very accurate at 50 yards ..haven't tried 100 ..
I've also picked up the identical rifle in 22 magnum . The 22 mag shoots well also , but not as tight as the 17 hmr .  The 22 mag packs a little more punch maybe ..

Squirrel season is not to far away :-)
