I saw about 13 does/fawns by 8... tough to keep track of them!  Saw more over the course of the day. Heard one shot far in the distance all day. Then, just before sunset my son filled his management permit. That was the only shot nearby... He saw a small young buck early.

The deer were hanging around close by all morning. It was amusing as there was a guy in camo who seemed to be afraid to go into the woods. He just kept moving back and forth along the powerlines. I could tell when he was moving around as the deer were watching him. I'd put money on it that he didn't see any deer.  :o

Snuck out quick for hour and half yesterday afternoon,  first time in over a week had late day deer activity.  Was covered up by deer in my blind from 345-430. 5 does a button and a big spike pushing them around. One got wind of me at 15 feet behind blind and cleared out the oak flat I was hunting.  Should have got up this morning before work but will get out again tonight for a quick hunt.

Snuck out for a quick p.m. hunt, asked my son to go but declined.  Of course out comes a young 8 point at 4pm.... he milled around and I got some video of him at 15y wishing my boy was in the blind instead :'( to shoot his first buck.

Out this morning with the crossbow. Jumped a doe on the walk in, anither doe cruise by me at 15 feet around 10, and I  decided to let her walk. Statrted raining so I packed up and jumped something on the way out, and 30 feet from my truck were a four and a doe bedded on the shoulder of the road.

If it stops rainig I may head out with the rifle this aftrenoon.

Come on little doggie lol
that's sweet, I hope you get to drop the hammer.

1 week in to season and I have only hunted 3 days so far, I guess I have a certain sense of satisfaction after my daughter got her buck on opening morning, I feel like her getting that buck was better then me shooting a big buck.
, I'm on one of my favorite stands this afternoon and it feels nice!

Saw 10 deer with my son this morning - 7 does fawns and 3 bucks. Only one was a shooter and he was pushing does so no clean opportunity was presented. Was hunting some private this am and this afternoon I haven't been back to since my good friend passed away almost two years ago. It's an odd feeling to be here again for the first time knowing I won't see him after the hunt to share a beer, but I can sense his presence on one of his favorite watches. Enjoy the traditions and cherish the memories - good luck.

I just never seen anyone use them when they hunt.
I have a pair for my  girls, they have a microphone so you can listen,  but then are noise canceling when they fire the gun. They work great for the kids, it keeps them from flinching  at anticipation  of the BANG, my 16 year old didn't wear them this year,  she said she didn't need em anymore,  but they are a great tool for young hunters,  or in greensiders case when shooting the ole hand cannon,  LOL.

It's about 1 PM on opening day of rifle season 2020. No deer seen thus far today. The squirrels and birds, including song birds and woodpeckers, have made lots of noise. Quite warm...  The highlight of the day thus far was seeing a barred owl flying from tree to tree.  My buddy, hunting a couple hundred yards away, saw two does...

Wife saw a buck chasing a doe in the backyard yesterday. I sat back there after work and saw 2 small does. I have a tag but they never gave me a shot. An hour
Later had a red Fox circle my stand. He /she never smelled
Me. Seemed like it was marking its territory. Stopped
To pee every 20-30 yds. Second rut may be on

Second maybe third I really don’t hold belief in an actual rut time span if a doe comes into heat that’s where it is happening maybe the moon has some affect on it who knows but I have seen breeding in September

The bigger bucks won’t let those yearlings near their does, they wander around searching for rogue does, it’s been happening in my areas for several years, if you can find the does the bigger bucks should be lurking nearby. But it’s not that easy, lol. Keep at it Griz, you’ll find em.

I'm going to keep at it... worst case I'll find one around Christmas with my flintlock... all I've been hunting with this year.

Part of the back story is that the huntable deer are on the surrounding unhuntable properties. Development and posting issues have given them safe haven... I recall years where on opening day a steady stream of deer would come out of the "big woods" and go into the unhuntable "little woods" behind my parents' house. They took a path through and out of the big woods that was close to houses making them unshootable.

One time my hunting buddy and I took a walk in the little woods mid-day opening day while taking a lunch break. It was like the Catskill Game Farm... there were deer all over the place! They barely moved out of our way to watch us as we walked through. I'm talking about deer standing 10 feet away from us... ! My buddy started running around barking like a dog and the deer simply stepped back and watched him. It was funny and sad at the same time... they KNEW they were safe there!😉

I agree, the deer hunting has changed in a few of my spots, and I also think the deer have evolved….they have adapted to areas that are non hunting areas, and they hardly ever leave those areas now. They sure do know how to survive.
