Post by: BUTTER on April 19, 2022, 07:09:27 AM
This fish was swimming in shallow water in my neighbor's pond.

Those big scales and the location would seem to point to it being a carp, but the head looks strange.  Maybe the water refracts the image to cause that?
Does your neighbor have grass carp in the pond?

The pond was stocked with carp about 6 years ago.  It seems that carp would be wider and with a different shape head.

I say carp, angle of the pic changes the width of the fish making it look much skinnier then it really is.

Hybrid grass carp.  Sometimes they live 15 years

Hungry grass carp that has not has not a good meal for a while because it was winter.  See them in many farm ponds==want to piss a farmer off and get a one way ticket off the farm for good ==do something to hurt the algae control fish that he had put in the ponds.  Not a good deal!

Could it be a snake head?
