Squirrel hunting

(1/3) > >>

MUSKRAT:
I see squirrel season is open ...
anybody shooting any ?
Some say you should wait until the first good frost , to kill any worms they might carry ..
Squirrel can be good eating ..

brushwolf:
Im getting ready to shoot a few. In my opinion the worm issue is an old tale. Worms are usually intestinal and not affected by temperature. I think it might have started from the botfly that small game can have at times, especially in the south.

walkabout:
yea dont think temperatures matter my dog jack gotten worms several times from rabbits during the winter.

MUSKRAT:
Was jack eating the rabbits?
When we got a snowshoe, we would gut it right away , usually the dogs showed up and wanted some ..... I always hung the intestines up in a tree , but fed the heart to the dog as a treat ..

We had one beagle , if you didn't get to the rabbit first , he would take it away and eat the head off ..
My dogs would get worms occasionally, but I never associated it with them mouthing the dead rabbits..

Used to be some big old grey squirrels around , now I see mostly smaller ones ..
Gotta get after them soon ..

ole bleu:
Spaghetti sauce and squirrels in the crockpot haven’t had it in a long time
