Deer Covered With Flies

(1/1)

Rickhem:
I have a few that visit my pond regularly.  One doe with two fawn seems to be a fly magnet.  At first I thought that was what was in the picture in the other thread.
I'm talking hundreds of flies.  She looked like she had dark colored blotches on her fur, until I got my binocs, and could see that they were not dark patches, but hundreds of flies.  She waded out into the water a bit, probably to give her legs a rest from all the flies.  Strangely enough, neither fawn seemed to have more than a couple flies on them.
I hope this isn't the front edge of CWD up in my area.

walkabout:
I seen one like that the other day also

Ziffystriperchum:
Are you sure they are not covered with the mites that cause EHD??

Camp Cook:
Fllies are terrible this year on livestock.  Deer are the same.  Dry hot conditions are perfect to hatch.  That is why you are seeing deer out in the middle of the day running across the roads and fields trying to escape them.

Midges that cause EHD are almost invisible

Rickhem:
Definitely flies that were on the deer I had by my pond.  They were on her legs by the tarsal glands, on her hind quarters, and a lot around her face.  I think she waded out in the water to give her legs a break from the flies.  The fawns were nursing, and she got a break from that too.
