took my buddies son out for his first time ever for himself.

Got to the spot about 5:05 am, walked to around where I had roosted the birds last night, or so I thought, but I was wrong.
The birds were still half way up the mtn and on private land, Unfortunately the kids father could not attend due to a recent injury, but i advised that after a few days of study I felt the birds would naturally come down our way.  They gobbled off-and-on for approx. 30 min, only answering my calls twice.  But again I advised that's a good thing they know we are here.  After the birds left the roost, I called and called for another 20 min not an answer. but after a lil home work, I had an idea we were in the right place.  Around 6:15 I started to putt instead of yelp and bang on the ridge above us about 300 yards out, the hill lit up.
I whispered, they are coming.  Not even a min went by and i see four birds running down the bank above us, then they hit a ledge and veered off to our left to take the easy way to us, at this time I said to my self, awe man they all jakes. Then I see two birds fly off the ledge, and head for the batch of jakes cutting them off from my decoys about 50 yards out.
The two toms ran those jakes all over the flat we were on ranging from like 30-50 yards away, when another Jake flew down off the cliff and V lined straight at the decoys.  The larger of the two toms noticed this and turned and came strutting to with in 20 yards at which time i said, take the bird in the middle that's fanned out, and Bang dropped him in his tracks, only flopped once.

Ended up being just over 7" and had 3/4" spurs, I would say approx. 15/16 LBS.

What a great hunt and experience, congrats to the first time hunter.
P.S we got another one hooked guys
