Roundout creek question
« on: April 13, 2022, 05:33:38 PM »
I spend 90% of my time fishing Albany area however I run down to Kingston at the start of every season. Seems like every year I hear Tales of herring in round out Creek and always make a run up the creek I make my way all the way up to West Kingston recycling in most years have difficulties locating any herring. Any recommendations do I need to go higher up round out Creek or just forfeit round out altogether? Not looking to spot burn just need a general idea if I need to keep going further up the Creek.

Yes go all the way up to the falls  , but beware of rocks ...
Anywhere past the bridge is usually good when they are running strong , if your jigging ..

Use caution , shallow water and lots of rocks

I don't get up at 4 AM to play catch and release .

Underneath the eddyville bridge  u will see a little stream jig next to that I've cought them there my whole life. bring a really long jigging rod so u can reach some deeper water.

Thanks again guys for the info I made my way up to the falls and even managed to put a few herring in the live well. Didn't manage any stripers but I did see two guys on Shore taking two fish to the trucks they appear to be about the 25 in class. I even got to meet a guy that claims to be the infamous Ziffy at the boat launch when I was pulling out.
As expected very cool dude!

Imposters are easily ID'ed-- they will not have homemade beef jerky in their possession and will get confused when you ask them to tell you the 18 steps to properly pickle a herring!

Yes Camicwrath, you must use a sibiki rig and jig for herring in the creeks ( no nets) .  . . and there is also a reg. that you can only have 5 hooks per line . . . so you must cut a hook off of those sibikis sold with 6 hooks! . . . it’s almost impossible to jig from shore unfortunately. . .

. . . the herring returned to Kingston today on the rising tide . . . . I scored scapping @ high tide this afternoon until the head of my scap net broke. . .  >:( >:( >:(
Now we might get snow tonight!
