"Good morning,

I hope this email finds all of you well. I am reaching out because, if you haven’t already—please return your angler logbooks (or data) to me from last season.

Also, I wanted to make you aware of a new draft Amendment (7) to the interstate fisheries management plan (FMP) being proposed by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission. This is a draft and is open for public comment from now until April 15, 2022. Only comments received at a public hearing or in the form of written communication will become part of the public comment record.

Draft Amendment 7 is proposing options to address the following issues: management triggers, recreational release mortality, rebuilding plans, and conservation equivalency.

This document has a lot of information on a lot of topics pertaining to striped bass. I would like to point out one that would be particularly altering to the recreational fishery in the Hudson River. That is Sub-option B2. Spawning Area Closures, (around page 62) which is one of the options put forth to address recreational release mortality. The two spawning closure options would affect the Hudson in two ways: 1) No striped bass harvest in the Hudson River; and/or 2) No fishing for striped bass on Hudson River spawning grounds during peak spawning for at least two weeks.

We will be having a public hearing soon regarding this and I will let everyone know the date and location as soon as I have that information.

I encourage everyone with a interest in striped bass fishing to please take a few minutes to consider the information in this addendum and please send any comments to:

  • Do it safely or not at all-- there is always time
Just what we need---more mandates for the good people of NY with "public comment" periods with no one listening that has any skin in the game.  JMO  >:(

Truth is people that do care, doesn't matter. Much like hunting , trapping, n any other input NY DEC looks for like it makes a difference.

I’m not sure closing it all together is a great idea. Maybe catch and release on Striper in the Hudson. Help the fish out and continue to let guys fish for them. These may be controversial comments and I’m sure no one is going to want to hear it but if they don’t do something to bring the numbers up we all lose the resource forever!
If they don’t do something they will close it down!
Look at the west coast salmon and steelhead regulations. They also stock hatchery fish out there and seasons are closed all the time. On a natural reproduction species like Striper it’s only a matter of time if we don’t sacrifice something we lose it all together guys!
I love to Striper fish and hope my kids will be able to enjoy it with their children some day!
That’s all I’m saying!
Just my 2 cents…

below is the reply i got back after sending comments from multiple email accounts .... maybe i sent my slip rental check too early this year .......

"Thank you for providing input on the Draft Amendment 7 to the Interstate Fishery Management Plan for Atlantic Striped Bass. Your comments will be shared with the Atlantic Striped Bass Management Board for its consideration at its next Board meeting, which will likely occur in the Spring. Upon considering public input, the Board will select final management measures and consider final approval on Amendment 7.

THE 70s was when they discovered the PCBS being dumped thanks to the LATE ROBERT BOYLE and others who started the HUDSON RIVER KEEPER and commercial fishing closed in the HUDSON ....

I agree completely they should and I also agree they won’t!
To much money involved so they will take it away from the little guy 1st!
That won’t solve anything as we all know where the real damage is done and unfortunately the fishery will continue to decline…
