Ice storm
« on: February 04, 2022, 08:32:55 AM »
Lots of power out ..
Trees and limbs down all over ..
Might take some time to get power restored this time !!

Got to be nasty out there in this ice storm, trying to get power lines back up and running again ..
Got to give a lot of credit to these utility crews ...

Incredible damage all over ….
Feeling sorry for people without generators , or wood stoves to keep warm ..
Going to be a while to get power back on…

And  some idiot politicians, want to outlaw burning wood ..

I lost power about 6:04 AM Friday morning and got it back about 5:17 PM Saturday evening. The first of 3 distribution line fuses I heard blow, in about a 10-15 minute period, took my power with it. I spent today cutting up fallen trees and branches at my sons' homes and did some at their neighbors. Three of the 5 houses on their road had their electric service ripped off the house by either limbs or trees... one of my sons and the neighbor I helped included. The other son suffered damage to his car. There are at least 2-3 days worth of chainsaw work to be done within 75 yards of their houses... I'm going to ignore the rest of the acreage for now. I inspected my parents' property and there is at least a day's worth of clean up there... probably more. My place... 2-3 hours should do it.  The amount of damage I saw while driving from house to house was mind boggling. I don't recall a storm this bad in my area... ever.

My utility power is back on …
I was close to 60 hours without ..
All good  now .. :-)

I burned about 50 gallons of diesel fuel in my generator..
It ran continuously , I never shut it off …

I hope you guys are back on as well …

Speaking of deer, this storm and cold weather seems to have encouraged herding. Whereas 3 weeks ago the biggest herd seen was 5 deer today there were 15 in the original group and more joined them as the day wore on. That was encouraging considering how invisible they've been since last summer.

I had a few trees snap and come down, the deer were on it quickly, like a dinner bell. Nature’s way of feeding the deer, hopefully they ease up on your apple trees now.

I'm in Rosendale and we were out from Friday @ 8:30 am until Monday @ 3:00 pm what a ride. Thank goodness I have a 10000-watt generator that took care of everything in my house. Ran it continuously keeping it filled was the hardest thing gas containers are heavy lol. Had a transfer switch installed about a year ago and it was the best thing I ever did. Thank you Bob you sure made it easier for me to take care of don't know what I would have done without the ease of hooking it up. I hate playing with power! This was a bad one. But I did it..LOL
