Southern Dutchess/Putnam butcher
« on: November 14, 2021, 07:52:40 PM »
Hi everyone.
The butcher I have used for the past 10 years has retired. It was great because he was 10 minutes away from me, but I am looking for a new butcher if I decide to drop it off instead of doing myself. We all know that doing it ourselves is better, but sometimes time is an issue so I would like to have an other option before hand.
I would prefer the name of someone in southern Dutchess or Putnam counties. I am in the town of Beekman and hunt locally, as well as in Kent, Putnam Co. I also hunt Westchester and use Amato's if I am down that way.
Thanks with any suggestions.

I know you are looking for southern, but Timber 2 Table in Milan is aces.  If you are in Beekman it's only about a 25-30 minute drive.  They are friendly, clean, very reasonaby priced, and have quick turnaround.

He was my guy, but I don't think he's doing them anymore because his sign wasn't put last year or this year. I didn't want to call in case something bad happened to him.
Thanks to the others that replied too.

Every year it seems more and more give it up, with nobody looking to fill the void.  Can’t say I blame them, it isn’t fun.

maybe a good time to start butchering on your own ... I've stopped using a butcher for @ least 10 years and enjoy hunting more now plus get way more meat and cut everything like i want it ..... MANY YEARS AGO bought a butchering video from https://www.lemproducts.com/ ..... there's tons on YouTube now on how to do it ... i know exactly how my meat was handled and no matter what the Deer i used to turn in i was lucky to get 12 pounds of chop meat ... now taking a mature deer i always get 20 to 30 pounds of chop meat and another 30 pounds of steak and chops .... it takes me a good 2 weeks to finish but the meat is always in the fridge .... things u need is a dedicated fridge (easily convinced the wife we needed a new fridge and i took the old) boning knife .... grinder and some means to package ... i prefer to vacuum seal everything ....

I do take care of most of my own, but I like to have a back up plan. If it's warm out, I don't have a walk in cooler or if I am not going to have the time because of family plans, etc.
Thanks for all of the suggestions, I got them in my phone in case I need them.
