cell camera experience
« on: July 19, 2021, 10:23:24 AM »
just want to share my cell camera experience for those thinking about getting one ..... don't want to debate the ethics and i really don't care what all the talking heads say are valid reasons to get one especially the one about staying out of the woods .... i want to go to the woods and checking a camera is a good reason to go and i only go maybe every other month except during hunting season .... however i do have one spot i can only access during hunting season because of its use during the other months and its somewhat of a drive and hike to get to .... i actually pulled a dumb camera out of there because i very rarely got to check it ... so this area was a good candidate for my first cell camera ...

bought a spypoint from CABELAS because at the time that was the only one available on VERIZON and not super expensive for $99 and $18 bucks for the metal case and another $20 for a security cable ..... the VERIZON signal back there is ok but not great .... took me a few days to get it to work in my yard and after a firmware update it finally started checking in ... i could have used the free plan with 100 pictures a month but went to the next plan of 250 pictures for $5 a month ....

took the camera to the woods set it up and looked like it had a signal even though not strong .... after a few days it was obvius it wasnt talking ...

so had to get a long range antennae for another $65 which had a 15 foot cable .... then had to buy a lightweight collapsible ladder that i could backpack in for another $100 to get the antennae some height....  safter all that it started talking and below is the 1st picture i got in the web aPP ..... maybe ill go there for early bear season .....

They sell like hot cakes. I have a couple of the original reveals, but the reveal x is supposed to be slightly better. The app and camera are tough to beat. Haven’t had any issues and service comes through in a lot of places wouldn’t expect.

don't really like the idea of these cameras. If you ask me it takes the hunting out of hunting..

Idk, i think it all depends on how you hunt ,  I will say, I do use cameras extensively, but my average distance to hunt is between 1.5 to 2.5 miles from the truck as the crow flies. I think it’s just as common for Getting a picture on a camera to hurt a hunters chance, as it is to help.

Most hunters I know that had pictures of a deer they wanted, also have a story about how he got away, the neighbor shot it, it got hit on the highway...

ARIZONA banned GAME CAMERAS ...  all cameras .....not just cell

here's an article about it https://www.bowhunting.com/article/arizona-bans-use-of-trail-cameras/

a lot of other western areas don't allow any cameras during hunting season .....

I think you’ll really like that camera. I have 2 spypoints and the tactacam is better all around. Dealt with their customer services also, and they were very good.

a day after putting it in a remote spot with very little signal it sent a great picture ... too bad i didn't get the head ... that is one deep chest .... btw ... I'm off LITHIUM batteries on all my cameras .... I had 3 cameras fail in the last 6 months and all were running brand new lithium that died regardless of the camera activity and went back to Duracell alkaline ... I get a years operation usually on the Duracell ... not so on lithium .. at least that's been my experience ....
