Thats exactly what what pointer jack does after a hunt. I give him a bath and he goes upstairs and sleeps for 8 hours..

Got out at Stewart for a bit this morning. Another quiet day there... heard a guy shoot twice but that was it. We had no flushes despite the dog working steadily. He's done an amazing job over the years so I don't think it is him.
On another note, at about MM 72 on the NYS Thruway there was a car/bear collision. The bear was big... easily over 300 lbs. The car was towed from the scene. Perhaps a quarter mile south of there a dead fisher was on the shoulder. Sad to loose those critters to ground level missiles...

We got to Stewart this morning and flushed one hen... The dog did a great job of pointing and the bird held very tight as did the dog. We stomped around for a long time before the bird flushed. I even tried to release the dog to get him to relocate but he wouldn't budge. Of course the bird flushed behind a bush so my buddy couldn't see it! Me... once it was quite a ways out and clear I got a shot. The dog located the downed bird and it went in my game bag. We had a good time and that's what counts!
It's been tough hunting at Stewart this year. The brush has gotten progressively thicker and taller over the years and some of the areas are so thick with thorns that they are nearly unhuntable. Hopefully DEC will bring in the forestry mulcher again and do habitat work.
No woodcock flushes today. Maybe tomorrow!
BTW, DEC has moved some parking areas and created new and additional ones inside Stewart. I saw a couple spots where I'd parked many times in the past that are no longer designated spots as they moved them. Last week I saw vehicles in both the former and new location for one of the parking spots... Be careful where you park!
