Corona virus

So today I went to pick up a gallon of bleach for my wife. First place was Wal-Mart and they were sold out. So I went to Shoprite in Ellenville. The gallon of bleach is usually $4.99 was $17.99 is that price gouging or what? Always someone's gain in a bad situation. What does everyone think?

You can't find hand sanitizer anywhere!  I tried Price Chopper, CVS, Walgreens, Dollar Store, and Big Lots...all sold out!

Panic buying is understandable considering how the media is playing up the situation. It's not helpful and not necessary. This virus is not the Scarlet Plague.

Regarding the price of a gallon of bleach, I am a capitalist and understand supply and demand, but price gouging in a panic situation goes too far. I thought price gouging was illegal, but that law may only cover specific items.

To make your own hand sanitizer, mix Everclear grain alcohol and vegetable glycerin, 3/4cup Everclear to 1/4 cup glycerin (used to thicken) It kills germs as good as Purell, and when this virus blows over you can drink what's left over, both ingredients are edible! I added a bit of peppermint essential oil so it smells nice, and still drinkable. ;)

And the ingredients are actually available and not being price gouged. I got the vegetable glycerine on Amazon, it may be hard to find locally.
