No first hand experience.  I do have a book, if I remember correctly it is almost the same as .223, and I think the .223 made it obsolete.

It's actually faster than 223 by enough to interest me and cost of ammunition is half what a 204 or 22-250 is

The triple deuce is a pretty cool caliber but does not out speed the 223
It sounds like you are describing the 222 Remington magnum which will out perform the 223
Be careful they are not interchangeable.
I will use factory ammo generals for comparison
55 grain bullet from 222 - average 3095 fps
55 grain bullet from 223 - average 3240 fps
55 grain bullet from 222 mag average 3294 fps
( these are just averages )

These speeds are mostly due to there case capacities
The other variable is case max pressures both 222's have a max of 50000 cup (copper units of pressure) while the 223 is rated @ 52000 cup
They are all great rounds, the magnum can be difficult to get ammo .
223 is the king as far as cost per round and selection of factory ammo
I love the triple deuce probably because i'm getting older and it was popular when I was in high school.
If cost is a factor go with the 223 - if speed is what you want go with 22/250 or a 220 swift
If you can get a good deal on a triple deuce or you found a nice one. BUY IT (i would)

If you want speed 220 Swift is the way to go, but overall 223 is a better round. Which is why its so popular. Alot of variance of the 223 look great on paper but most are overkill an burn up barrels.

Its one of those rounds that even though other rounds have come out that may out perform them they will stick around forever due to there loyal following.

My dad has a .222, not sure what gun, but that thing is so accurate it's ridiculous. He used to shoot chucks that I couldn't even see they were so far away, and he'd hit them right between the eyes. As a kid it impressed the heck out of me.

Hey guys - I inherited a .222 Rem Mag from my late father (the only thing I inherited, bless his heart) Model 700, has an aluminum body Weaver scope on it - It is next to impossible to find ammo for it, I take that back, it's not next to impossible it is flat out impossible. I have re-loaded about 40 rounds and have about 120 "new old stock" rounds on hand.  It drives tacks, so I bought a Ruger .204 because it is the grandson of the .222 Rem Mag inasmuch as the casing is a necked down version of the .222 Mag, the Ruger .204 is the most accurate rifle I have ever owned, I put a Zeiss scope on it and I can't miss...flat shooting and no kick.  Wonderful round.
